  • Bora 4motion binding up when turning hard lock to left?

    Hey there,

I have had problems with my 4motion binding up when turning hard left, and also when reversing
When you slowly turn into a carpark the car clunks and it feels like all wheels are fighting each other...

Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to rectify the problem?

I'd get it scanned and make sure the Haldex Gearbox is behaving itself. I've heard of similar symptoms with Haldex failure. The quote from the mechanic was " If it feels like the car's trying to tear itself apart, the haldex unit has gone."

              Is it a loud twang / spring'ish sound ?

My Golf does this occasionally, usually when going full lock reversing on incline.
Took it to Pedder's and they could not replicate the problem nor find any issues with my suspension.
My car is lowered though. I'm hoping it is just a sign of its age.

I used to get a knocking/clunk sound before, but fitted the ECS refresh kit with my new shocks and this sorted it out. Could be a worn bush or ball joint.

Also the one time my steering got stiff/tight on lock was a few months back at a motorkhana event, but I put that down to a lot of powersteering use in a short period of time.

It is like all four wheels are fighting each other when turning, almost like having air locked diffs on a four wheel drive, also will i have to take it to a VW Dealer and get raiped in the ass and pay a fortune or could i take it to a good mechanic if so any suggestions for S.E suburbs in Melb

if its resistance and fouling at all four wheels then sounds like diff.

any good mechanic can work on these cars. they might not specialise in them, but it will get done

my car's last owner had work done at volkspower

If it turns out to be the haldex controller you might consider an upgraded unit. In which case Volkspower as an APR (and therefore Haldex) dealer would probably be a good choice of mechanic

Might help you feel bit better than paying a similar amount for stock one from VW.

I had a bit of a quick google about the place and came up with this little gem of information that you might like to try.

For people with this symptom, try pulling up the handbrake just one notch, so the light comes on the dash to show its on, then try the manoevere. If it cures it, then it is the haldex controller only, one notch up disconnects the haldex. If it does not cure it, it is a mechanical issue with the haldex diff.

As a check if haldex is working, s quick start with one notch on the Hbrake should set the front's alight, whereas without it should grip and go..

Handy to remeber if you think you have haldex issues.
It's off an Audi forum so I don't know how applicable it is. LINK

Avoid the dealer and go to VolksPower in Burwood.
