  • coolant temp sensor $?

hey guys, i was told in a thread that the reason my was getting black smoke/running rich and poor fuel economy was that my coolant temp sensor was shot, after consulting with my friends dad who is a mechanic he said its most likely gone aswell.

just wondering what one of these is worth to replace?

Go to your local stealer service centre. They will have 1 for less than $50.

I'll say it again, contact one of the mechanics on here, Golf Loon/GTIMKV or Tooleys Imports in Hornsby and support locals business.

This import from US thing is quite overrated on items like this. I have done a fair bit of buying from here and OS and for the record, they are not always cheaper!

You should only be paying $70 tops locally.

And you kids need to learn how to get on the phone and get prices yourselves!

Like the $250 AUD VW tried to charge one member for a coil pack when you can get one for $20AUD from ECS or all 6 landed for $150.00 AUD including shipping

In my opinion until the dealers here stop charging like wounded bulls I will be doing all my parts shopping OS.

For sure if you can get it for a reasonable price from an independent supplier by all means go for it but my advice is to give any dealers parts department a big miss and save some money ordering from OS.

It's not just car parts either, I just ordered 2 HANS devices for $1800 landed where that is the same price for one from the supplier here.

              Cheers Al

Stealership quoted me around $70 or so a year ago when I enquired (inquired ?) Walked off shaking my head...

Ended up getting one from foreigncarpartsonline.com for around $20 all up IIRC.

                  Easy job to change yourself.

$20 for a coil over plug coil i assume, coil pack is a coil pack. If thats right geez thats very cheap. i am flat out supplying a coil over plug coil for $80. Seriously if you can get these coils over seas with the dollar fill your boots. Uk is a great place to shop at the mo too. I saw some "green"temp sensors for sale there for a bargain. I say Green, if you have black change it to Green

Cheers for that Al , might have to bulk up the way things are going, that is cheap as man. I do know VW and Audi supply a superseded version now defined by being Red. My A4 Turb has all red now too, guy before me done all his servicing at Audi and all blacks go to red now. They look good too. Ecs ones are still the old part number, still they are filthy cheap. Red ones now have a completely new number.
                        Cheers

The part number is 022905715B as far as ETKA is concerned that is the latest version, do you have a part number for the red top ones so we can check it, would be interested in seeing if ECS can get some in as spares?

ECS are pretty good for most parts mate, for big ticket items like my shortened gears I got from TM Tuning and paid 1/4 of what VW here wanted per gear. There really is no point buying parts in Australia currently. We stocked up on brake rotors when we got all four landed for a bit over the price of what VW wanted for one front rotor.

                          Cheers Al

Where exactly would this sensor be on an MK4 R32? I scanned my car today and its coming up with the fault code for it.
