Headlight Buzzer (when you leave the lights on)

Love it, cheap to run and fun to drive.

I have some nagging issues though:



The Headlight buzzer is spasmodic, any ideas? sometimes it works some times it doesn't, that is when I turn the motor off with the keys in the ignition and the headlights still on.


The central locking relocks after unlocking sometimes in as little as 10 seconds, I know a lot of modern cars do this but 10 seconds What the?


and the radio has just gone kapoof, cheap Eurovox , any suggestions ? for a replacement

not sure, but something to note, if you turn the car off with the indicator on, you'll hear the same buzzing sound because i believe this turns on your parker light on the side you flick the indicator towards.

sounds about right, maybe just a touch short, if you're concerned its not right get an exact time and someone here can compare theirs. if you're walking towards the car, the buzzer works about 30 meters away, and there is usually enough time to make that walk unless you fiddle around for a bit. i've been done a couple times but it's not that hard to press the buzzer again.

depends on your budget, heaps to choose from. i've always gone for Pioneer Head units. some ideas on prices.

actually my factory cd player/radio had a broken display, wasn't bothered because i was always upgrading the stereo.

There is a microswitch in the drivers door lock that is playing up.

Could just have dirt in it or has a dry solder contact inside lock if you are lucky.

Plenty of threads on vortex about this issue.

VW will try to sell you an entire lock assembly to fix it, but you can just buy a new microswitch from Jaycar/**** Smith/ ebay for example

Sounds like my issue in an '01 Bora.

It's most likely the door open sensor, i.e. it does not know when you open the door to get out.
I left my lights on once recently due to this (the issue has just started recently, buzzer used to work ok), also same as you, you unlock the car, and if you don't start the car within 30 seconds or so the doors will lock again (Again, it does not know you have got in).

Another symptom is the light on the lower part of the door does not come on when the door is open.

Apparently the sensor is inside the lock / handle?
Anyone fixed this issue? - I did read recently it is usually dry joints in the small circuit board that is the issue. (I also read there were 4 micro-switches in there ??)

Any tips/ links would be handy - was actually going to attempt this afternoon but not sure I have the time

door locks

Hi, I had an issue the other day with the interior lights not coming on when I opened the passenger side front door.

I found it was a sticky door catch not triggering the internal switch...all the dust around I suspect.

I simply squirted some CRC (WD40 will do the same) around the actual door catch area...I didn't pull the door apart or anything... and it fixed the issue.

With all the dust around I expect we could see a lot of these little issues coming up.

Not as far as I know.

They just used the same crappy design all the way through...just like the window regulators.

Once I've got the door trim off, removed the 10 or so bolts holding the silver bit on, then removed the 3 screws that hold the window motor on, how do I then remove this panel to actually get inside the door?
It looks to me something else is holding the panel to the window mechanism.

Do I just need to wind the window down first or ??

Have you unbolted the glass from the window regulator?

You access the bolts through the two big round rubber plugs at the top of the panel. Window may need winding down slightly so bolts are accessable.

Then you push the glass up and tape or wedge it in place (so it doesnt fall into door!)

I did pop the grommets out and had a quick peek in there but that's about it

Sounds like a rainy day job to me, or I will put up with it.!

There is no need to remove the widow motor.
Take out the window after loosening the 2 bolts, unclip the cable for outer door handle, remove the spline bolts to lock mechanism.
Unplug everything and remove the 10x10mm bolts and out comes the big metal sheet.

I would highly recommend that you replace the window regulator clips while you have it all apart too.
