  • Calling All MK4 Owners !!

    Hey Guys

Hoping one or more of you have come across this and found a solution to my dilemma.

Trying to install a double din headunit into the R32. However to my dismay, any aftermarket solution is a lot smaller in physical size in comparison to the factory double din hole. There is about a 1cm gap on all sides.

As my headunit did not come with any sort of metal bracket/cage, i assume only that i require some sort of Facia kit/adaptor gizmo which will allow me to secure/screw the headunit in place.

If anyone has crossed this bridge or managed to source one of these adaptors or something which allowed them to install it, please let me know as i have only had luck sourcing the kit overseas and are wanting over $100 which i thought was a little excessive.

    Cheers guys
    Naz

To be honest ive never seen anyone come across this problem in the mk4 as its the same as a standard size deck .. so x2 for both dins.

Your better to check what brand of deck u have for parts wise for adapter and google maybe?
    What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

I dont understand how you have something made to an industry standard that dosnt fit into an industry standard space ???? if you know what im getting at.

I have a double DIN unit with no problem or extras needed to fit.

hey guys thanks for the replies

You have me more concerned now

Kaneda, how exactly have you installed your double din? Have you just simply put it in the gap and it stays in firm?

My double din is a factory standard size but im puzzled as to why the factory hole is too big. I've installed many number of headunits but this is the first car i've had this size issue, unless im missing something here.

It's not different for a R32 is it? I would imagine not?

Do you mean that the chassis fits into the space, but the fascia has a gap around it?
My JVC double din unit came with a trim piece that when fitted, sits perfectly.

I did buy a double din fascia kit so it would fit nicely before I fitted it, but I didn't need it in the end.

As indicated by the others, double-DIN is double-DIN - but that's just the mounting system - it's entirely possible for the facia to be smaller (and thus require additional trim to fill the double-DIN hole in the Mk4 centre console.

Alternatively, have you perhaps inadvertently removed some centre console trim with the stock stereo when you removed it?
                Nothing to see here...

Upon closer inspection, i think the problem lays in which how to secure the unit in place.

In previous vehicles there were factory brackets in place which allowed me to screw it into.

How have you all screwed your double din secure into the factory trim?

cheers guy and apologies for any confusion caused

did your headunit come with a cage? mine did (only single din). just source a cage for it and you should be dandy.
