just what i was looking at on a uk site

they have the full kit for the bora for 54 pounds or so i think i need to become a member before i can buy i put them in the cart cant find the checkout lol

I got mine from HEL Performance in Qld. They charged $60 per front line, which is pretty cheap. I supplied them with a line which they could copy - turns out I supplied them with a standard Bora line, so I'm trying to rustle up a proper R32 front line (and rear line) that I can ship to them to copy.

Pounds - meaning the UK (since HEL are local and do bike lines by default)?

They will *not* be ADR compliant if you get them from overseas (unless someone's crazy enough to be making them overseas to meet Australian standards. Given the relatively tiny size of the market here, I don't think that'll be the case).

To be compliant, they must not only conform to the manufacturing standards (soft collars to avoid whipping damage, etc etc), but they must also be marked with a manufacturer's serial number (which identifies the ADR compliant manufacturer) as well as an ADR approval stampings. If they don't have the markings, you're in for a world of hurt if you're ever in an accident and someone starts doing some investigating.

Look up HEL Performance in Qld (near enough to Brisbane). Thecertification of product from their UK branch means nothing for ADR compliance - the ADRs have additional requirements over DOT/TUV standards. Race Brakes in Sydney are another mob who can do it apparently (though they never returned my calls/emails).

Yes, an item may exceed the test requirements of an ADR but if it hasn't actually been tested and Canberra has extracted their pound of flesh, then you're on your own insurance wise.

A case in point is the Recaro baby capsules...far exceed any Canberra penpushers concept of safety and yet they cannot be sold here until they are independently tested here for ADR compliance.

Yah, same with my last two Subarus before I moved to VW (also in the Bora I believe).

The issue I think is that ISOFIX doesn't add any additional safety above properly installed seats using the current system. ISOFIX still requires a top tether in some of its variations as well (so removal of top tether isn't a reason to adopt it).

What ISOFIX does resolve is the issue of fitting the seat properly - it either fits properly, it it doesn't fit at all, there's no ambiguity or room for unnoticed error.

It'd be nice if it were available, but I personally bought my child seats for safety (at which point I chose the safest of the Safe N Sound models, which are as safe as anything else in the world) over a brand name.

It's not that bad, really.

Ratifying the ISOFIX standard will be expensive for everyone involved, and my guess is that it's just not that high a priority given the existing standard already does the job. You also have to realise that given the small market size that Australia presents, there's not a lot of commercial incentive for companies like Safe n Sound (and their parent) to spend the money putting their new products through testing to prove that they're as safe as other products they already produce and can already sell on the Australian market without additional testing required.

You really do want the government laying down standards though - the alternative is absolute chaos and destruction as cars and products that simply aren't safe run around damaging property and injuring people.
