      Thanks Al

Yes V71 ,Air flow flap motor, thats the one I've been investigating.
      I priced that part yesterday 1J1 907 511 A - $251.96 (Brisbane, Highway VW)
Where did you get the $120 quote ??

I've read that stuff on the tex, and other sites in German, and found the steps in my Bentley. I've got a draft DIY which I will finish off when I get to do my car for real.

I'm expecting that the real fix will require a correction to the flap, or the actuator arms that control it. I'm fairly sure the motor is going to be OK, we know it is trying but is likely to be backing off due to something binding.

I think the worst thing would be to go in and try to fix V71 and find that the problem is on another motor, like V70 Central air flap motor.

So having a vagcom reading to confirm the correct part could save some effort.

Yeh I've had the same problem for ages. Mine does it for a while and than I think error's and it stops trying to find the home position. So I haven't really found a need to replace it as it stopped bugging me
