  • Mk4 R32 quick questions

    Hi guys,

Can someone answer the following for me:

    1) Do the mirrors fold in? Was told by dealer that they don't when it says they do in the book

    2) Does anyone have a service/workshop manual for an R32?

    3) Are the standard tail lights the same in all golf Mk4 variants?

Yes they do - although it's a manual procedure.

No. The Australian delivered GTI, R32 and some 'special' models have the same tail lights. The indicator lense is a smoked grey, whilst the base models had an orange lense (and possibly a lighter red). There's a few other variations on overseas models too.

I have a PDF of the Bentley manual that has a supplement in it for the MKIV R32. You can download it from my Rapidshare page, it is 66MB zipped and 108MB unzipped

Yep the mirrors fold in manually. I do it regularly to try and avoid them being clipped by cyclists or general careless people opening their doors into them.

The tail lights are specific to the European and Australian spec R32s (some other limited edition MkIVs might also have had them). The US spec R32s had a very red tinted specific to them. And the MkIVs all had different lights. This is why no one likes the altezzas fitted to your car. They only brought 200 R32s here as I'm sure you already know so why would you change out the lights to something that every man and his riced lancer has.

        Cheers,

Ok I have a set of R32 lenses thanks to DUB 20V but have now run into an issue because it appears original globe fittings have been removed...

Does anyone know if the original globe fittings are the same in all Mk4's?

I basically need the link loom that runs from the main loom to the tail lights. Have attached a couple of photos of what I have.

The left photo is obviously the globe fittings but for the Altezza lights and the right appears to be the original connectors minus the globe fittings

All Mk IVs have same bulb mount that clips into back of light housing. You have a hacked up ricer modified loom. There is only one six pin connector that goes into the back of the factory bulb holder. Its in the bottom of this pic (ignore the jumper wire...that is my five brakelight mod)

Also, when you read the owners manual, anything with an asterisk next to it means it is an optional extra that may or may not be fitted to your car.

No Golfs in Australia had electric folding mirrors...although I just happen to have two sets of them sitting here on my desk

                  Awesome thanks Graeme86.

If that is the case it appears all I need is the rear bulb holders as the main loom itself is still in tact.

Hopefully I will have these tomorrow off Camden GTi. However, if all Mk4's are the same it should be easy to get the parts and have the attractive lights again!

Good stuff mate. A very wise move.
Graeme is the man when it comes to the R32. If it isn't covered or clear on the FAQ/DIY thread on Vortex and if Graeme doesn't know how to do it then it's most likely not worth doing.

Mac883 - make sure you get the factory plugs and bit of harness as well, so you can resplice it back on the end of your harness.

                      Thanks for the comments Trent.

my harness is actually in tact... The loom that I provided shots of has been added on... even had the right connector.

Graeme86, are you certain all the mk4's all use the same bulb holder? I have seen triangle shaped ones as well...

Does anybody know of a big VW wrecker in Sydney at all? Thought Pick n Payless may have some golfs but when I rang they said they didn't

All Mk IV's here have the same bulbholders.

The "triangular" ones you have seen might be Mk 3 versions.

If you look at the pic that Graeme86 supplied, the plugs on the loom for the Altezza style lights I have, look as though they plug into the bulb holder...

Not sure if they are any different in the other countries but instead of having the one plug into the back of the bulb holder, it looked as though you could have individual ones...

I have the new bulb holders which I picked up from Parramatta Prestige over the weekend. Will try and fit the lights tonight

Those individual plugs on the back are for taking wire taps off the rear lights when you install a trailer loom (then you dont have to hack up the factory loom).

You can also put a test light on them etc.

....also handy for the 5-brakelight mod.
