  • Almost Ready for the ATC

Well the car is almost ready for the transporter to Sydney for the start of the Australian Tarmac Challange.

Today we had some of the signage done, the rest will go on, including the door numbers and windshield banner, when we get to Sydney and get our event signage and race numbers from the organisers.

We've done a heap of work to the car in the past couple of months with new diff's, clutch, tyres etc etc etc and this event will be used to give it a good shakedown in preparation for Mt Buller in December.

A few pics for clicks follow

    Cheers Al

          Wicked Al,
As always presented so beautifully. I really need to think about maybe getting some serious detail work done.
Are you still doing the Rally Australia super special stages next month?
          Cheers,

Thanks mate, I only really use it for tarmac rallies and track days now, not really practical for the street with the roll cage. When we get the new car I will be changing it over to club rego and going to a full weld in cage and seam welding it instead of the bolt in cage.

                Cheers Al

No it will be quicker, substantially quicker

You'll have to wait and see

EDIT: BTW we will be staying in Coffs on our way up the coast with the rally on the night of the Friday the 4th of September, we arrive in town around 13:00 and have an auto test to run down by the Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshore Precinct starting about 13:30.

We'll be staying at Pacific Bay Novotel, maybe you can make it down and say hello some time during the day or evening.

EDIT: If you are interested I might actually get you to give the car a quick wash and detail if we have time but only if your interested in the work, it will give me some time to relax. Nothing major just a quick lick and a promise to get it looking good for when we arrive at the WRC super special stage in Murwillumbah on Saturday.

                    Cheers Al

Not that you'll read this until later Al. But wishing you and Marti the best of luck this afternoon at the WRC Super Special Stage.

                            Thanks Trent had a blast......

Got the car home in one piece from the Australian Tarmac Challenge

The only issue all week was the Monit Rally Computer stopped working around 50K from arriving back home, think we dropped the sensor or something on the axle but it should be an easy fix.

Huge thank you to Manaz and JVL for all your help in Sydney and Coffs Harbour, it was fantastic to meet you guys and we really appreciate the kindness, generosity and hospitality you guys showed to both of us.

We had an absolute blast on the event although I need to sort out some issues with my rear suspension before our next event which we are planning to be Mt Buller Sprint in December.

We also met Dave from Ambulance Private Tasmania who was on the coast to watch the WRC and runs a MKIV R32 in Showroom class in Targa and other events down there and is another great guy with some brilliant info on running rallies in Tassie.

After chatting with him this morning about the events down there and our car he kindly offered to let us use his service crew and workshop facilities so we have decided to enter the car in Targa Wrestpoint, Rally Tas and if the budget will stretch that far Targa Tasmania with the fist event starting in January 2010.

I will post some photos and video once they get them up on the site, I'm not very happy with my results but hopefully it was due to an issue with the linear springs in the car and not my driving as my best result was on a 5th outright and 5th in class n the Raymond Terrace Hillclimb.

I do have to say that Ian Cudmore and his co driver Simon in the MKV R32 were flying and were in 2nd outright in Club and teams overall until Ian had a problem with his car at Grafton Hillclimb, they were regularly handing me my arse on the different stages and Simon had an incredible first in class and first outright at the Coffs Harbour special stage.

Highlight of the week was definitely running the WRC super special stage on Saturday night, we were the only cars that ran the actual course the WRC cars did and we were the last group of cars on before the WRC cars, dumb luck put me at the front of the cue so I was first onto the stage and it was a HUGE buzz to run the stage with an estimated 7000 spectators watching.

I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to do one of the Australian Tarmac Rallies, you don't need a cage or even R rated tyres, you can run in stock class with just a helmet, fire extinguisher and long sleeved shirt. The next event is in WA and then they are having a one day event at Lang Lang proving ground in Melbourne which sounds like it will be fantastic so get onto the website and get your entries in.

                            Cheers Al
