  • Golf Mk.4 bonnets (hoods)

A while ago, I am SURE I found an australian website that was selling bonnets but metal and carbon fibre, for the Mk.4 golf.

I am rather interested in the "Boser" hood. the one that comes down over the lights a bit.

Where can I get one locally??

I thought they generally sold the front extension (boser) and you had to get it welded on and repainted etc. A full carbon fibre hood would be sweet though as I find the Mk4 front-end heavy.

          Lol,

The question now is, who will make the first move?

Will Pierre do the LHD steering conversion first?
Will the other guy beat him to it and go RHD?

And highly illegal under the ADRs, because a bonnet must crumple, and a carbon fibre bonnet will not - it will bend and then break, and when it breaks, it will shatter the fibres and lead to a large number of rather sharp "shards" of carbon fibre, all ready to mess up any pedestrian unfortunate enough to be involved.

The front end may be heavy, but you'll probably find that the bonnet weighs comparitively little when you take things like the engine, gearbox, suspension, brakes, etc into account...
            Nothing to see here...

Yeah yeah I know about the ADR stuff, but still

Obviously the engine and gearbox etc are heavy, but even 20kgs is a decent saving from the front end. Bonnets are surprisingly heavy (although I've never tried to carry one from a Golf). Plus things like brakes are low down; and I believe having the weight as low and close to the ground/centre is optimal for handling - but I'm not a physicist/engineer!

Remove all that carpet sound deadening stuff from the underside of the bonnet. There has to be a few KGs there. Cost ya nothing.

Pfft you non six cylinder drivers know nothing about nose heaviness.
That said you're also missing the AWD fun and the noise oh the noise.
                  Cheers,

Low is good, though unsprung (like brakes) are a concern. Brakes are also wide out on the car (but that can have some benefits).

I just think there are better places to save weight than the bonnet.

yevvy, you will need to actually get it done custom if you want it done properly. also need to get the weld on piece if you wanted to save some costs/headaches as well.

                              search the encyclopedia (vw vortex)
