  • Roof aerial rubber - how do you change it?

The roof aerial base rubber on my MK4 is damaged, and i think I better fix it before it lets in the rain (what little we get...).
Who has one the job, do you have to remove the hood lining?
Quickest, easiest , way to find one (does the OEM item cost a bomb?)
    Any help appreciated, thanks

    G'day Stan,

It's actually quite easy to replace, you just heat up the ring with a hairdryer/heat gun, lube up the antenna base and slide it over.

The hard bit is finding a replacement ring.

Someone on here was lucky enough to get one off ebay, but wreckers don't keep 'em, they throw them away and dealers (stealers) will only sell you a whole antenna assembly for an exorbatent amount!!! If you find the replacement rings on their own, please let us all know!!!!

      Hi Stan,

Just to be clear, your talking about the rubber ring that goes around the base of the arial to the metal of the roof? or lower half of the arial?

If your talking about the rubber ring, I need a new one also...

cool:Ive done one on my bora, yeah dont even bother about the dealer.
Got mine from ebay comes with rubber seal and new aerial base, head liner needs to be moved forward 15-20cm to get to the base nut.
You have a hatch so it will be easy. 30min or so take your time. good luck

Yes the bay is the place.
Look for the seller car-masts-uk, he has them cheap.

Install is easy, use a cup of boiling water to soften. Will look strange at first but shrinks a bit in the sun and looks fine after 2 days.

For what it's worth, ECS stock the base (as both a VW part and an ECS/Original Manufacturer part).

              VW Part
              OEM Part
              Nothing to see here...

Thanks guys, had a look for that seller and nothing seemed to show up? and according to ECS you cant get the ring/seal separately. Anyone else know of where to get just the ring/seal.

Does anyone have the part number...?

Stan, did you have any luck finding these yet? I have literally been searching for months as mine has disappeared completely and cannot justify replacing the entire antenna assembly for $380 when all I need is the damn gasket!!!

$USD50 or less to import a whole base from ECS. At an exchange rate of 0.8 (which is lower than it is), you'd pay less than AUD$65 before shipping - you'd have it for less than AUD$100 I'd wager...

Golf Loon had a number for these not so long back. I reckon it was a 4B0 number off a Passat or something.
