  • New Alloy wheels

found a good deal for 14" Alloy wheels for my MK4 golf.
Questions is referring to spec of the 6Jx14 rim, can the current 175/80/R14 be fitted in without replaced?

what I am thinking is to swap the rim only this time, and change tyres next time service with wider tyres like 185/70/R14.

don't know how 14" rim look like (when fitted), as I rarely see a 14" alloy wheel on MK4. there are also 15" wheel deals for MK5, not quite sure can be fitted on MK4 or not.

    cheers,

The Tyre & Wheel Bible says a 175/80R14 tyre will sit on rims from 5" to 6.5" wide.

http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible_pg2.html <- Search for "An ideal rim-width calculator"

    So you should be OK.
    Nothing to see here...

Thanks for the info. I think I pretty much gonna keep the tyre till next service.
BTW, how is the oil leaking, fixed?

            oil leak

No, I think the rear main is still leaking but it's not too bad so i'll leave it until it gets much worse.

I have a couple of other leaks at the moment, the fibre washer on my sump plug is leaking a little and I seem to have developed a bit of a leak (more of a weep) around where the gearbox selector shafts go into the gear box but not sure until I wash it all down at the weekend (before the cruise).

Not the best looking, but perfect fits my needs -enhanced performance from steel rim and a new set of new tyres.
