water inside car ?

hey guys. iv been having condensation on the inside of my windows lately and was a bit dumbfounded as to how it can be happening.

Anyway. I had a mate get in the back seat today and he was yet to put his shoes on and he tells me that its wet on the floor, it is only on the drivers side in the rear tho, anyway, i thought it was just a little bit wet, i sussed it out much to my shock it was sopping wet,. when i pulled out the rear floor mat and held it up there was a steady stream of water coming off it for about 2 minutes!

i have tried to soak some of it up with some towels and im yet to check out how that is going.

I had a look underneath the car with a torch but i didnt have it up on anything so i couldnt get right underneath to see if there was damage of any kind, i cant spot anything but i did try pulling out a few rubber plugs/stoppers but that did nothing.

Does anyone know 1, how i can try and drain the water and 2 what might be causing this?

your channels will be blocked causing the leak and it'll run down and leave a nice puddle there for you.

smell, get damprid as well as deodoriser which kills and reapplys perfum as such.

When I bought my GTI I had the same problem. Its from the overflow from your sunroof, like Fuzion said.

The sunroof DOES leak - it's meant to so the water can drain through pipes and out under the car but the pipes get clogged.

Open your drivers side door, you'll see a black rubber 'nipple' there. You can remove it and clean it out (it will be full of dirt/mud/crap) then run warm water through the channels with the sunroof open and flush it out. I did mine over 2 years ago and not a drop since!

Yep as discussed many times before. The sunroof drains have failed you.
Test them by opening the sunroof and pouring a cup of water down each drain hole. Wait a minute, if when you squeeze the nipple water comes out it means the line is holding water and is not draing properly. You need to fix.

The front ones are easy to get to but don't forget there are 2 in the rear as well. Removing the tail lights helps with access.

Sounds like you only have a bit of water. I had 3 inches in the front foot well, so I removed entire interior to get the carpets and underlay out. Dried on the line for a few days and put it all back in.

I had a similar issue with mine! For me it was the door seal rubber that was worn and when you opened the door you could see water stains from the top of the seal to the bottom of the seal.

So if cleaning the sunroof doesn't fix the problem check the seals out!

Best and only way is for you to sit in the car and have someone else run a hose over the car and sit and watch and watch and watch mate, really the only way.

I know its for a car with a sunroof but mine was leaking due to a tear in the rubber boot that houses all the wires running into the door. Water was flowing out the sunroof drains and straight into the hole in the rubber boot, then down onto the floor. Was bloody ages before it dried out down here in tassie.

ok guys i had it checked out when the car was in for a service. the seal on the windscreen is broken so looks like im up for a new screen as im told its near impossible to get a screen out without wrecking it.

iv managed to dry out the all the water with the help of a vacuum and a hairdryer and the floor mats are drying on the floor as we have floor heating so i should be back to normal soon.

i do have windscreen insurance and im looking into that but im not sure if it will put me back up to rating 6 or not with the claim.

Woohoo! I managed to solve (kinda) my first Golf problem!

MOST insurance companies let you replace one windscreen free a year without affecting your no claim bonus. Some of the cheaper companies however have it as an extra.
