  • Bought R32 2004 MKIV

    Hi All,

I just picked up my R32 from a dealer on friday.

And I have some questions in regards to the car and hope other owners could help clarify.

    I want to know if,
    1. If I do not have the limited edition keyring and badge on the car. How would i be able to find out my Australian Edition Number out of #200?
    2. I would also like to know, what should be the colour of the rear view mirror and side mirrors. Are they meant to be all tinted blue type like the GTI's? Cause I only have driver side mirror blue-tint.

If there anything I should look out for?

Is it a good practice to service the car every 5000km?
I am also given 3 years extendend warranty, but the catch is that I have to return to the dealer for service, and they cost heaps.
I am thinking of heading for AUDVOLKS or VOLKSPOWER. please comments.

    Thanks in advanced.

    Welcome.
Nice choice of car I'm sure you'll enjoy it heaps.

    In regards to your questions:
Finding out the number will be difficult. Your best bet is to contact VW Australia customer service through their website. I wouldn't be holding your breath though as I tried contacting them several times before I even got a response.

Rear view mirror is an auto dimming setup so it is has a funny tint to it normally and even more so if you're rear window is tinted. It almost looks green at night in mine when lights are shined into it. Also my stock side mirrors were non tinted stock. The blue tint you refer to is the European setup. I now have a blue tinted aspherical setup on both sides which helps see the blind spot.

As for the extended warranty I bought mine when it was just out of warranty nearly two years ago. Aside from a reverse light switch ($20 and less than half an hour labour) nothing has gone wrong. The likes of Volkspower etc are more than likely going to know more about the car anyway than the VW dealers as most of the cars I know of now are all serviced by the specialised dealers.

As long as the car has had a full service history with all services done on time then the car shouldn't have any issues.

Finally depending on how you drive the car every servicing it every 15000kms will be fine but an oil change and check up every 7500kms never hurts.

    Enjoy.

    Cheers,
    Trent

I always thought that ''warranty'' means ''we've got your ass if something fudges up in this amount of years''. If you pay for the warranty then they take the risk of saying ok we'll cover anything that happens that we agree to in the contract...

        someone wanna clarify?

Apparently only the first 100 cars actually had the badge down beneath the gear boot. All cars came with the keyrings though but these were a post delivery item.
The dealer the car was bought from should've notified VWA of the delivery of the vehicle and the owners details. VWA then sent out the nice little wooden box with the keyrings and umbrella in it.
Don't know why but this didn't always happen.

Woo!! Nice! just sign up, left a message, go make quick dinner and 5 reply!
                I feel truly welcome

Treza360 - Thanks for the quick reply
I only have Driver side Blue-tint but no spherical. (damn maybe it's after market)
Hmm.. from your stock setup, looks like only my passenger and rear view mirror is stock item.

From my past experience with the Volkwagen dealer
(used to own a golf generation 1.6, and the dealer always cannot fixed my white smoke problem, got it fixed at other service joint by using a finer engine oil),
they do not know the cars better then other service out there, to name some like Audvolks, volkspower and Autodynamics.

Nope, it's not there - under the gear shifter (that's why!)
Rear View Mirrors + side Mirrors, good to know, so now i can confirm that one is not stock item. Might want to get the workshop to replace it to stock?

Unbelieveable power - yes! dream of this power almost for more then 4 years
could not afford it when it got launched. (actually didn't know about the limited edition till 2006, Ha! I am not into cars)

Yes I will enjoy the car, thanks again!

The warranty is usually bull****, cause all items wear and tear is not covered.
I worry about the leather seats

Hmm might be 150 then. I know I heard/read it somewhere that not all of them were badged. Someone will know for sure.

Volkspower is where I'd be taking it for servicing... Dean certainly knows his stuff about later VW's.

                      that or Volkwerke in Greensborough.

I've had my cars serviced at both places and both have excellent service. I just go to Volkspower now cos its closer and more convenient to get to for me

These cars are still fetching top dollar! They're a great package and look awesome even today.

I highly recommend Volkspower too. You get what you pay for - the service is top quality. There's no point skimping out on service and maintenance on such brilliant cars.
