  • Golf MK4 Key

    Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I just bought a GOLF MK4 2001 model. (private deal)

It came with only 1 key, with no spare, no remote, no key tag.

I've been reading searched topics on replacement, and it seems like I can go 2 ways?

    a. to go to a dealer and pay 300-500bux for new key, remote, and program.

    b. to order an unprogrammed remote with an uncut HAA key from UK, then get the dealer to program it for me.

Seems like option b is the way to go, but the question is will the dealer actually program the remote for me knowing I just ordered it from the internet as well as not having the key tag number?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Really? hmmm, how do I find out whether my one has it?

And if it doesn't have one, are dealerships the best way to go with getting one knowing that it'll be pricey yet again?

I don't want any aftermarket ones to screw up other functions in the car.. :S

Anyone had this done from a dealership?
I want to know the price on:

      - fitting a remote central locking kit
      - getting a remote+flip key
      - programming the remote/key

Call a dealer and ask them to check what factory options were fitted to your car (based on your VIN/Chassis number).

A properly designed third party system shouldn't cause any grief.

From a dealership, I'd be expecting to pay far more than it's worth to retrofit this. Perhaps one of the VW specialists who frequent these forums and regularly part out crashed VWs may be able to help?
        Nothing to see here...

          Thanks for the reply!

I guess I'll just go to a dealer sometime in the next few days and see what my options are.

Or if any VW specialist here are fit to help out.
