Just noticed from your photos. It looks to me like you've got the US tail lights installed. They don't look as dark as mine do. It might just be the silver but that's how it looks to me.
Glad to here you're enjoying it. Now head out to the car get underneath the back end and disconnect the flapper vacuum hose. Just pull the thing right off and plug the hose with a screw and then tuck it out of the way. You won't believe the noise (and it's still legal as well).

It's pretty easy to spot. It's on the passenger side of the car. You'll see an extra exhaust pipe heading into the muffler from the side and going through a funny looking apparatus. This is the flapper. You can see the little arm on it that pull the flapper closed when you start the car up.Originally posted by sir_camel View PostWill go check it out soon. For a complete newbie where abouts on the exhuast is the hose?
The rubber hose that attaches to it is the one you need to disconnect. Just make sure you plug it with a screw or something as you will burn out one of the bits that operates it.

Yea i spotted that and guessed it was it. Just plug with a screw you reckon? Won't 'damage' the inside of the hose with the thread in there? Appreciate your help. Just about to go for a drive so want to try before it all gets a bit warm!2010 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon

Yep just a screw. Just make sure it's not too big. I've did an epic job with screws and clamps and electrical tape on mine but looking at Al's and Graeme's Rs it's not necessary. They've had just a screw for much longer than I had the flapper mod done on mine.Originally posted by sir_camel View PostYea i spotted that and guessed it was it. Just plug with a screw you reckon? Have fun, you're sure to enjoy it even more with the flapper mod done. There is a wealth of knowledge on here from all the other R owners as well as VW techs so feel free to ask and one of us will usually have encountered the question before.
Cheers Al

So i just took it for aq bit of a drive down the Old Pacific Hwy north of Sydney in drizzle and it felt so sure footed. Loved it. Favourite gear so far would be 3rd! I'll tryy do the flapper mod next weekend. Ran out of time today. Just wanted to drive it!2010 Skoda Octavia vRS Wagon

Yeah 3rd and 4th are definitely the most fun. It's also fun on the highway just to put your foot down in 6th just to feel the low down torque come into play.Originally posted by sir_camel View PostSo i just took it for aq bit of a drive down the Old Pacific Hwy north of Sydney in drizzle and it felt so sure footed.
