  • Hesitation issue

    Hello alls,

Changed headlight bulbs on both sides today... how car wont run properly... wtf.

removed battery on passenger side, hooked up again, all sweet. drivers side... i heard somethin fall off somewhere when was taking retaining clip off... dunno what fell or anything, or if i hit something, couldn't see nothing on the ground or in the engine bay.

Seems to be having plenty of steam out the exhaust (maybe because of rain, but i drove it yesterday...), and seems to rev to 2 or 3k and stop. Maybe limp mode?

any ideas what's going on, coz i'm out. Dont think is ignition, because revs smooth before stops revving. It stalled/cut as if immobiliser kicked in the 1st time i went to turn it on after changing the headlights too.

    Thanks for any help.

What engine is fitted to your car? A scan with VAG-COM would be the best place to start but without that all you can do is visual checks to make sure nothing is disconnected.

Have a look on this thread and see if an offer of beer might entice someone round?

PM Pierre (fuzion) I think he said he works around there and I'm sure he'll be willing to help you out considering your dub doesn't budge!!

I'd hazard a guess and say something is telling the ECU to stop acting normally because you unhooked the battery. Maybe some default numbers were overridden with an automatic ECU reset or something/

                Thinking throttle body adaptation.

Yep thinking the same- pretty sure if you disconnect the battery, you have to run the TB reset otherwise it will throw codes or go into limp i've heard.
Someone with a VAG COM or similar should be able to do that pretty easily. I've seen a page on the Ross Tech site with the details.

APK engine then, thats strange nothing in and around the drivers side like you mention. If its missing something you should be able to pick up on it via a scan. Cutting out could mean erased learnt values set by the ecu which would req an adaptation of the throttle body.

found what came off. is little cap thing from radiator hose? dunno what exactly it does? Regardless; replaced it, still aint goin right. oh ****.

Starts cold, then revs fall and almost cuts out, need to rev it and warm it up before it stops dying. Then seems to want to stall when apply load to it/put it in gear and try to drive.

Thinking maybe should get it towed to a shop.... but WTF I JUST CHANGED THE HEADLIGHTS! pos...

Ok, gave Seb a call today, told him issue, he suggested that maybe it's the MAF sensor. Computer likely corrected it before, and after taking battery out, probably reset.

Unplugged the MAF sensor as advised, ran a bit rough, but drives somethin crazy at higher rpm!!!! feels heaps more powerful! maybe it's overfueling, but meh

                        Many thanks to Seb

Make sure you replace the MAF reasonably quickly - if it is overfuelling too badly you dont want bore wash to occur and damage the pistons/cylinder

car has an o2 sensor for a reason it wasnt overfueling that badly.
