  • Future rusting problems in MK4s?

    Any one had this problem?

    some of the rubbish

im getting a large amount of leaves build up this time of year due to the tree i park under at work. but i think the previous owner did the same, as the leaves have all borken down and turned to dirt and what not.

I pulled out as much large pieces as i could with any tool i could find laying around, and then took to it with a crapy old dust buster with not much power.

Is this how mk4 (guess bora and golfs are the same here) ment to look? or am i missing a piece of plastic?

    the dust buster... LOL

The drivers side is a differnet layout but the same thing is happening there, didnt get around to cleaning it out though

You'd be surprised about the amount of stuff that will have built up behind the wheel arch liners. You should take the front ones out and dig it out.

Really bad, any water that runs through into the wing will take weeks to dry out.

I was shocked when I did it to my A3 last year and I should have a look at the S3 soon.

      Don't MKIV's have a 12 year rust guarantee since they're galvanised?

Dont know? i know there not going to rust in 5minutes, but dont like the idea of it all being built up and wet and what not..

It should be in your manual, I do recall reading a MKIV GTI one, I'm sure it was mentioned...

Take the wipers off and the plastic cover thats underneath. Be careful not to break it. Clean it up and put everything back together. I did this on my car about 6 months ago when i was taking the ECU out. I couldn't believe how much rotten s**t was there
