  • Mk4 Rear Brace ... TST Style

    Hi boys and girls,
Hope all is well in the land of Dub.
I'm just wondering if there would be any people interested in a TST Style Rear Brace for their Mk4 Golf ?
TST no longer supply these and even when they did you were looking at around $600AUD with freight.
I have made one previously ... first time around with my .:R ... but then sold it. Obvioulsy its much more cost effective to get them made in a batch of 5 or10 etc so if any one is interested please PM me or post your interest and I'll find out a price.
I am in WA so please take into account the cost of freight aswell.
    Cheers
    Stuart

    Hi eyez,

Just after some info on the bace.

    What material is it?
    How thick is it?
How is it joined to the body/chassis of the car?
Does it make a discernable difference to the handling charcteristics of the car?

    Thanks,
    Gav

      From the TST Website:
      • Fits all MkIV Golfs and R32s and MKV GTI's and Rabbits.
      • Ties the unibody together to help remove body flex in the rear portion of the hatchback.
      • Improves handling.
      • Constructed of laser cut hard anodized aluminum for low weight: 5.6lbs.
      • Countersunk aircraft grade rivets and hardened M8 fasteners are used throughout.
      • Retains hatch and rear seat use.
      • Easy install in about an hour and can be easily removed in minutes.

There's about half a dozen of us on here who have one I think. No complaints that I've heard. It's easy to install yourself. You just have to be patient and willing to drill four holes in your own car which will be hidden away out of site if you choose to remove it later.

      Cheers,

        Thanks for that Trent.
Basically what he said Gav !!
The one that I made previously was cut from 5mm Aly with 25mm Aly SHS rivetted and tack welded to the back of the plate.
It definitely improves the stiffness of the rear of the car and TST have sold lots of these in the US and the UK.
The only other difference with the TST item is that these will be powdercoated rather than Anodised.
        Cheers

These look awesome, but $600? Ouch. Do you have a ballpark figure in mind?

                Thanks trezza!!

I only ask because I have access to 6 nice shiny lazer cutters at work, that can cut up to 25mm mild steel so if it is effective, I might design my own one up. I work in the automotive industry, so there's no shortage of cooks in this kitchen on how to do it!!

Hmmm, interested if it fits a Bora V6 4Motion as well (I suspect so, as the rear suspension layout is similar if not identical to an R32)...
                  Nothing to see here...

I have one of the TST ones but it would be good to see some localy made ones being done.

It should also fit the Bora 2mo and 4mo...

                      All good Trezza.
Gav I have a DXF of the brace if you need one ... just feed it straight into your NC Program and away you go.
I can email it to you monday morning if you like, just let me know.
Just so we're clear I'm not intending to make money from these, I was goin to make one up for myself and figured I may aswell offer it to others aswell.
                      Cheers

Price will also be greatly determined by quantity.
