  • Does anyone know the History of this Golf?

Ive done some e-stalking and noticed the dude who used to own it isnt registered onto these forums anymore..

Reason i am asking is im looking at purchasing it off the guy who bought it off him now in queensland...

The guy is claiming some stupid numbers like 180kw's and ****...

In its current state its got stock vw wheels, the car has been resprayed, interior retrimmed, MTM chip, k03s, H&R coils, few more mods here n there and hes asking 16k for it...

My father seems to think that its overpriced, and i am just wondering if anyone knows of any accident history or anything, whether the car was abused and all of that

I've got a vague idea of who owned it (I'm fairly sure it used to have an R32 steering wheel on it that I had arranged to buy once it was pulled off the car, but the seller dropped off the face of the earth), but not enough info to say one way or the other based on knowledge of this car in particular.

I will say though that right now, it really is a buyer's market out there - used car prices have dropped considerably lately, and if you have any serious concerns about a car, the smartest thing to do right now is to walk away and find another - there's plenty of cars on the market.

Regarding price, I'd have to say that $16k is probably a bit high for a GTI these days, particularly considering the fact that by and large, mods don't add value to the sale price of a second hand car (except in rare circumstances) - this is why a lot of people strip modded cars back to stock before selling them and then sell the mods separately.
    Nothing to see here...

          Thanks for the swift responses!

The car has a very clean interior, its been fully retrimmed in black leather with grey suade inserts and double stitching throughout... It does have quite abit of get-up & go...

I personally dont have any doubts about the car lol, i just think that 16 is abit off a reasonable price.. but hey, its a nice ride.. doesnt have the gay black tails anymore, or the gay black wheels or the gay grill, so it just looks like a decent little non-homo GTi haha

If i can pick it up for a little cheaper, ill be more then happy to join this little community, seems like a great source of info , We already have a b5 Passat Variant 20VT, but this seems like a great addition to the family...

This car has over 20k worth of mods I think 16 is quite reasonable.

Are all the mods still in place? I know the R32 steering wheel is gone, the wheels too, and there were a few other parts that were being removed before the owner we're both aware of sold it.

The interior retrim was very well done though from memory. That alone probably justifies the price if you like how it has been done (by this age, the stock interior can be getting a little "worn").

The value of engine mods is rarely reflected in the sale price of a car - I personally don't fully understand why, but that's just the way it is.

Yeah i understand both view points...

The interior is well done, but redbook values 2000 GTi's at 11.2 to a max of 13.4k, somehow a 2.6k premium for a used vehicle im having a few doubts about is kinda expensive.. but it is a gorgeous interior haha

And quite reasonable from a starting position of asking $16k for it...

                          Firstly welcome to the forums.

The car was a runner up in the modified category at the Nationals from memory. Was immaculately maintained and looked after. The respray and reupholstering was done when some scum decided to vandalise the car. The job was done beautifully and to the utmost quality.

It's such a shame that the car had to be parted out and put back to fairly stock as it was a fantastic looking car without having over the top mods that would compromise it's reliability.

If the current owner looked after the car like the previous owner did then I think a GTI in that condition could be worth that amount, however a couple of k cheaper is probably more realistic.

Finally comments bagging out owners doing "gay/homo" mods will not get you very far on here. Lets keep it friendly and voice differences in taste in a little more mature and constructive manner.

                          Cheers,
                          Trent
