The AGU is a cable throttle engine, I have one in my 98 A3. I thought the DBW motors had taken over by 2001.

Only on A3s. All Mk4 GTIs have throttle cables. Turbo Beetles on the other hand, are DBW. Not sure if this has always been the case for the Beetle Ts, but I suspect so.
