  • Rear window problem.

    Hey guys.

Somethings gone wrong in the rear passenger side door of my car.

It seems as though the window has detatched from the frame or something like that.

Whenever you press the button to raise or lower the window the motor works, it stops at the right spots its meant to but the glass does not raise or lower.

Has a clip or something broken, perhaps the window has come off its track, or is this something more serious?

Its in no hurry for a fix as the window is raised and i just leave the window lock on so no suckers in the back can fiddle with it.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers.

    Window regulator

    Hi Mitchy G,

I would say you have had the dreaded Mk4 window regulator failure....we have all had it happen at one time or another.

The little plastic clips that hold the ends of the cable that winds the window up and down snap. There is a repair kit available from VW for about $115 per window that contains metal clips and all the bits necessary to repair the window mechanism.

      Craig.

I wasn't sure if this was my problem or not as the motor is working fine. It just seems as if there has been a slip somewhere in the window and the glass has become detached.

Is this typical of the regulator problem?

Sounds like it, yes. The clips have probably proably and the glass has slipped out of its brackets so while the motor is driving the guides up and down, nothing happens. Happened twice in my car. Hope that makes sense!

What a pain in the arse. So the only way to fix this is the 115 dollar kit from VAG?

I spose im in no hurry to fix it as i dont often need the rear passenger side window down while sitting in the drivers seat.

Just be thankful it wasn't your driver's window, in the rain. I kid you not...

Mine happened at 10pm in Bathurst before a loooong drive back to Sydney. I had a headscarf around my face. Late night + 110km/h with windows down is not good.
