  • Buy some coilovers from ecs tuning (America) or Dpm performance (England) and get a mate to help install them. It's jot that hard and $1500 will get you a lot! Maybe even some bilstien pss9's

    • Driving home tonight I noticed one of my newly installed headlights wasn't working right. The park light and fog light would come on but the indicator, high beam and low beam were not working.

Went to open the bonnet and the pull handle popped out fine from under the bonnet but when I pulled it came off in my hand. When I removed it to fit the headlights on Saturday I didn't like the piece of wire holding it on, so I replaced it with a cable tie. Only problem was the cable tie needed to be very small to fit in the hole, I guess it was too small to handle the heat under the bonnet, it softened and snapped.

Wasn't too hard to bend a piece of coathanger and slide it under to pop the bonnet, then used a piece of the coathanger to fix the handle back on more securely.

Disconnected and reconnected the connector on the back of the headlight and everything works fine now.

Also noticed that my second radiator fan doesn't work on slow speed and my driver's door micro-switch that tells the lights to come on only works half the time. Two common Bora problems that don't cost much to fix but are very very tedious.

      • doesnt look to bad sirmoe... new mounts should bring it down a touch, but they are meant to sit up a little from memory.

        • pulled out the starter motor and gave it a clean and regrease since it would randomly stick and make that horrible squealing noise. so far so good, and it definitely sounded nicer when we hooked it up to the battery to test it.

also picked up a $25 air mattress from kmart and a 12v pump for the car, fits a treat although it loses air over time

          • Finally got my hands on a 36mm socket and did the oil change. The dealer I got the car from had to have lied because there is no way that oil was 7500km's old, poor engine must not have seen new stuff for the last 20k as it was black and the filter was pungent. Will have to do another change in 5k to get all the old sludge out.

              • needed a pink slip so got it serviced. it's nice to not have to change your own oil!
trying to find out one thing on the service report, what's "Wynnns optimum engine kit" ($36.95)?
Tried googling it but couldn't find anything. Is it an engine flush?

                    • Got my hubcentric rings and new lugs today all the way from Ronal in Germany (thanks to LWR for sourcing them for me) so as soon as I got home I fitted my Oettinger wheels.

                          • ECS package finally arrived, no pics as it wasnt exciting. New plugs (old ones had the VW logo one them so god knows how old they were), new coils (3 were the original 100A) and cabin air filter installed. The magnetic drain plug will have to wait for the next oil change and the temp sensor will have to wait till I get to Melbourne next week.

                            • Gave my Bora its first halfway decent wash in over a month.

...also, as I was turning the car around to take this photo a cute young girl in a Polo smiled and waved as she went past.
So, as I am a total dork I ran straight inside and told my wife about it.
