    • Did a brake and clutch bleed, stoppers really pull the car up now and clutch feels a little smoother. Also got the diff oil in, a few pointers that may help others and also save some money...

      1. The 4mo/R32 diff filler bolt is a tricky little bugger with very little room and is a 17mm hex, dont be fooled into buying the 'special' tool to get it out. The security bit for your stock wheel bolts when flipped over is actually a 17mm hex, buy a socket to fit the torx on the opposite end, make sure it is a very short socket.

      2. You need just a little over a litre to fill the diff back up, sucks as most of the really good fluids come in 1 litre or 1 quart bottles

      3. Try and have the car level when you take the filler plug out, else you get a really nice 163k gear oil surprise in the eye... and this stuff does not smell like roses

Tried to get the oil filter cap off with a shifter as I could not find a 36mm socket anywhere for less than $65 and my ECS parcel still hasnt left the states (never ever use USPS) and failed. On top of that some retard has totally rounded the filter drain plug so it will be messy when I do get it off. Any Brisbane based peeps have a socket I could borrow for a couple hours to save buying a second one off ebay or something?

      • I have had a few things queued up waiting for my Bora to come back from the mechanic.

Picked it up this afternoon and added a masta plasta patch to cover the tear in the drivers seat, got the info on this from what drewr did on page 362 of this thread.

The patch was $17 delivered and arrived in a funky Royal Mail par avion envelope in about 4 days.

The camera flash makes the leather look in much worse condition than it is, but I am
still on the lookout for something to treat it and restore it a bit.
        Any advice will be appreciated.

        • Busy Morning..

I changed the oil, installed my new headlights and painted my grille black.

All the supplies laid out for the oil change.
Oil filter, oil, engine flush, air filter (didn't end up using it, the one in the car is fine),
magnetic sump plug (more about that below) and cabin air filter.

Before the new headlights and grille repaint

          And after....

The only problem I had was with the oil change. Filter came out fine but I could not for the life of me find the sump plug. I ended up removing what I assume is the oil temp or pressure sender unit from the bottom of the sump to drain the oil. Now I'm a bit paranoid that the gasket from the sender unit is a bit perished and I might lose oil from there. So where is the sump plug on a Bora V6?

          • It is at the very back of the sump toward the drivers front wheel, 19mm socket. The new lights look very nice.

              • replaced parkers and headlight globes in the dark of the night. 4300k Phillips globes. looks great. (however, i don't recommend doing it in the dark, otherwise go nuts)

djorkboy - ive seen and heard about thoughs masta plasta patchs. that should be good for the mean time. And your black grill on the v6 looks that much better in my opinion! great job. my question is will the v6 badge come back on or not?

Thanks, I think the black grille really transforms the look of the front. The V6 badge is going to stay off, Boras came with too many badges!!

I'm considering a black VW badge too, I would love to have a chrome free car.

                        • Today I parked next to a stocky mark 4 at the shops, to my surprise it looked a few inches higher :/ Mines not lowered factory stock.

I popped the bonnet, the strut braces (or whatever you call them) have a 1-2" sagg on them :|

                          Springs must be worn?

Wheres worn? do you mean the struts seem to be sitting high?
I know when i replaced my strut top mounts, the new ones were .5' higher then the existing... got a pic?

I open the boot on mine to find my 5lt oil container had fallen over with a lose lid... good thing I have a boot liner! a tshirt, and lots of documents were thrown straight in the bin however

Gave the car a clean, added a new sticker, and took it for a test run on the new wheels. Only took 100m of driving to realise the fitment is a little extreme...

and gave some of the other wheels a polish. Now for the other 3 sets of splits...

                            • Long story short, When I attempted to start the car (in gear whilst on ramps by accident) one of the camshafts skipped a tooth...
Fixed up the camshaft timing, and now it all works as it should...
