  • How do you cancel the service reminder!

As some of you might know, just recently bought a '99 Mark IV Golf 1.6L Rally for my daughter.
The car was serviced just before delivery but now (a few days later) the service reminder keeps chiming away every time we put the key in.
Is there anyway I can cancel it, or do I have to bring the car to a dealer/repairer?

    Thanks to you all
    Tony

With a MKV version it is this:
When the car is off, hold the reset button on the right side of the dash (0.0). Then turn the key on (not the engine) and once the service now words come out on the display press the minute(m) button on the right. That should turn the service now off.

Not sure if a MKIV is different

      MkIV much different.

      1) Turn ignition to On
      2) Press and hold the trip counter button
      3) Turn ignition off while still holding the button
      4) Turn ignition back to On position, then release trip counter button
      5) Turn clock dial to the right and release
      6) Turn ignition off.

When you switch your car to the On position, you should have no more service reminder

Oh, also the chime is the seatbelt reminder, not the service reminder.

Gavs you were right on the money. Thanks very much. I would have never come up with that!
Um. You were right about the seat belt chime too!

FJ Steve, thanks for your help too. The Mark V's must be a little different.

        Have a great day!
