  • Clutch Cable Problems.

Hey guys, just in a bit of a pickle we have a 1999 Golf Cabriolet 1EZ model. The owner is complaining about excessive free play in the clutch pedal, due to the automatically adjusting clutch cable.
Just wondering if there is a manually adjusting cable available. Any thoeries or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Dave.

Has the pedal come up miles above the brake pedal? There is a plastic stop that sometimes breaks on MK2s and 3s. As the MK4 cab is really a 3 in disguise, that could be the problem.

Those self adjusting cables don't give much trouble in my experience but the cost of a new one usually means they get replaced with a manual one.

You could try one from a 2 litre mk3??

Do Mk IVs have auto-adjusting clutch cables? The friction point on my pedal is pretty high and seems to be getting higher... I hope it doesn't require a new clutch.

          Mk4 Cabriolet is really a Mk3 Car.

          Could be cable or clutch.

Does it have the rubber bushes on the gearbox end intact?
