  • 2 Faults with my car. Lock and Computer

    Hey guys.

Just picked up a 2000 model golf and its great although there are 2 problems with it.

Firstly the lock on the drivers door. I am unable to turn the key in the barrel of the lock and i cant lock the door from the inside. To lock and unlock i have to goto the passenger door and turn the key in there and it works fine, quite annoying though. Also tonight the drivers interior door handle pulled out from the trim a little bit, is this connected to the other problem in any way?

Secondly i believe that my on board computer isnt working. Am i meant to have some kind of read out of fuel consumption and suck between the speedo and rev meter in the little rectangle in the center of the guage cluster? if so nothing is appearing in there when the car is running.

Is there something im meant to be pressing to turn this on or is it an option i dont have or is it busted or something else all together?

    Cheers guys.

    Mitch.

The computer, if fitted, is controlled by the end of the right hand stalk, no buttons on there = no computer.

Not sure about the locking but could be wiring. A strip of the door panel would be a good idea.

      hi

if the door barrel spins around and around or the lock is tight to move, you will a new door barrel assembley, the carrier breaks and it wont turn the lock.

with the on board ecu, if there are no button on the end of the stalk there is no on board, also some had a reset button on the bottom of the stalk which turned the screen on and off, but i not sure what model had it

      cheers

I'll outline the problem better. When i insert the key into the drivers door lock, i cant turn it clockwise at all. If i turn it counter clockwise it will rotate to the locking position but it wont lock the doors or raise the windows. It feels as if there is no contact being made inside the lock compared to the passenger door.

Im going around to a ex volkswagen mechanic's place tonight and we will suss it out. he had a quck look and thinks we might be able to fix it.

But is there anyone else who has had this niggle? how did you fix it all up.
