  • MK4 R32 ECU location/removal

I want to take my ECU out to take it to syd with me and get the REVO map uploaded to it. They offer a 5 hour trial so i wanna see how the car will go with their map.
I have no idea where the ECU is though. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I thought you had the APR chip?
It's located pretty much under the steering wheel column. Unscrew the screws above the pedals towards the seat, there's about four or five from memory and then remove the guard there. Then you should be able to carefully pull away the interior plastics below the steering column. I can't remember if there's another plastic cover under this that has to be unscrewed and/or removed but you will see the ECU behind here. It's a case about the size of a big computer hard disk from memory and has two multi pin cables going into it. It's screw mounted but is pretty easy to take out.
    Cheers,

i had my ECU reflashed with APR trial software which expired when i took the battery off. Way longer than 6 hours
I'll give it a go, but i had a look on the net and on other forums and it seems that the ECU is inder the wipers

I guess by that you won't be able to trial it until you get back to Perth though Sounded like you were going to have the 5hr trial in Syd hehe

I wish i had an R32 here to test it Last time i was here i found this beautiful road going towards blue mountains, similar to our zig-zag. I'd love to take it there for a spin

i wish it was that easy. Apperently ECUs are not swappable between cars. Plus i wanna drive my own car for 5 hours with the map

My laptop is connected to the net via my phone and its sooooo slow!!! I can't believe this!!!

Hmm wonder what the little controller is under the steering column then? Will have to investigate further. I just figured that that is/was the ECU...

Groovy. Thanks for that. There's a lot of electronics in that nice little box.

The acceration/yaw sensor for ESP system is the one on the left of the column, the black plastic box with two plugs on the right side is the Comfort Control Module.
PM if you are looking for: R32 rear sway bar; R32 suspension springs; Euro Headlight switches

Good to know what is what. Why'd they have to hide the ECU so out of the way?
You end up getting any piccies Balkanac?
