  • Converted my MK4 GTI into MK5 (Mighty Mods)

OK so this has been a long time coming. Some of you may remember my post about my wife stealing my MK5 GTI. Well I thought the easiest solution was to modify her MK4 in style of the MK5... all in 8 hours.

I'd like to thank watercooled for being a fantastic comuunity of really great helpful people. Some other forums I'm a member on are not nearly as friendly.

Thanks to sierra055 from this forum for info on bumper removal. (check for your name in the credits dude

I really hope you like this special super episode inspired by VWWATERCOOLED and made especially for VW fans.

We're aiming to get a show up on Foxtel and they are keen but want to see regular views first. We're over 250,000 downloads now from youtube and itunes now so if any of you could post this into any other forums that you are members of, that'd be fantastic. If someone could get it on vortex I'd really appreciate it.

Let me know what you think!

Haha rad. It reminded me of the 10,000 times I have had the bumper of my golf(s).

Really hope you get a show. We all know it will be better than Top Gear Australia

great vid, there stuff is pretty informative.

But honestly, that mk5 look tail lights and head lights are damn ugly.
Not to mention the dumbest thing ever to do on an mk4 is putting a venting blow off valve on. thats like a big no no.

I like the idea of the exhaust. However that would not be legal in NZ, as the exhaust is easily modifiable. The new Rep Rs4 wheels dont even do it for the car. Heck an i have first Gen Rs4 wheels on my car and i hate them. lol

I don't mind what they've done - each to their own I guess!

Regardless of whether you do or don't like the individual components selected, the episode does give information on the general upgrades - wheels, exhaust, headlights, taillights, BOV, etc. that can be done to a car.
                Nothing to see here...

Thanks for all your kind words guys. It was good to do an ep on the Golfs after 19 episodes on imports.

Can someone explain what the story with VWVortex is? I posted it up there and it sounds like they hate it.

Though in the past I've seen their posts on 'Amazing Looking Golfs' and when I saw the pictures I was shocked. Gold Tartan paint jobs with pink wheels and exhaust pipes that light up with love hearts etc. And they love it... Strange.

I think it looks good. Some people seem to think VW's are some kind of holy grail and must only be fitted with BBS wheels and coilovers... whatever

well like i did say a few posts back, good that your modding a mk4.
But again they are very much like using OEM + type style gear not aftermarket Bling.

Hence you got flack for the headlights and tail lights.
You can actually get mk5 look headlights for the golf mk4.

But again each to their own. Could also be the car has not been lowered even 35mm so it's sky high with RS4 wheels that i personally dont think suits the shape of the mk4. However in saying that i have seen only one mk4 golf where they did indeed manage to pull the new school RS4 reps off.

But them slacking you on the vid, that is simply bogus. That was done well.
Good editing informative and related back to previous mods.

All i'm saying is their is no way i personally would be caught even dead driving the car. But as long as you like it, it does not really matter what others think.

I did enjoy the vid otherwise.
