  • R32 tacho on a GTi

Hello, everybody.I am from Greece 9Thessaloniki) and I am new in this forum.I own a golf gti MK4 2002(AWP). The car has already a tacho with MFA(half-display).The part number is the following:
    Controller: 1J0 920 926 D
    Component: KOMBI+WEGFAHRSP VDO V01
    Coding: 03134
Can i change it with the R32 tacho with half-display MFA (1J0 920 826J)?.I am thinking if there is a problem with the rev-counter because 20vt is 4-cylinder and r32 is 6-cylinder.If it is not a plug and play, is there anything i can do(maybe with VAG-Tacho) to make it work?Generally will i have any more problems swapping the tachos? Please help me.
    Thank you very much.

You speak Greek my friend?I am glad!I will keep on writting in english so the others can understand.I found an r32 cluster on ebay and i am just about to buy it. The question is, will the rev-counter work properly ?or not?The guy with 2.8l cluster made it work properly.Did he have any problems or the cluster was plug and play? You mean he coded the EEPROM of the cluster or put the software code from his old cluster?

the revcounter works of what the abs sensor or wheel speed sensors send to the abs control unit that then send to cluster i dont supose it would be problem then just make sure you have the old clusters code and make sure the ebay seller gives you the code for the r32 cluster

I thought that since my engine is 4-cylinder and the r32 6-cylinder i would have problem with the RPM's.So there is no problem?Just keep the software coding(03134) from the old one and put it to the r32 cluster? It seems to be very easy...just like a simple cluster swap?I thought that i had to make an EEPROM change to calibrate the RPM's!!Are you sure my friend?...so i will go for it!

ok here are a few things, you need to find out if your cluster in your GTI is immo2 or immo3. From memory a AWP should be Immo3.

Now you cannot i repeat you cannot install a Immo2 Cluster in a Immo3 equipped car but you can put a Immo3 equipped cluster in an immo2 car.

You need to use the likes of vag-tacho to get the SKC from your current cluster and and the New cluster.

you then use the new SKC of the immo3 cluster to program into your car, you also have to reprogram all car keys too.

You will then have use binary of the cluster to change a few thing like disabling the oil pressure sensor component, but again i'm pretty sure the AWP engine indeed does have oil pressure sensor. This way you can also enable disable what ever parts you require to work or not to work in the cluster.

I'm with you, amazing the depth and breadth of information on this forum isn't it?

Fitting R32 cluster to GTI?.........sounds like it would be a whole lot easier to trade the car in on a R32!
                        Cheers

I really do not have problem to do all the IMMO-work and matching keys...I 've allready done it at the past. The fact is that my engine does not have oil-temp sensor at the bottom of the oil carter, so i will probably will have to disable from the cluster's EEPROM(with vag-tacho), sinve i believe r32 has this oil temp sesor. But how can i make this change.Which address and what bit will i have to change in case i will have problem with the oil temp sensor? Finally, from your wxperience, there is no need to worry about the RPM's at the new cluster? It will work properly for sure?(This is my big trouble-question since r32 is 6-Cylinder)...Thank you!

silver_power_20vt - Regarding issue of 4cylinder or 6cylinder. That is not a problem, that gets coded in the cluster with vag-com, You will need vag-com ver 5 upwards in order to get into immo3 cluster. Again go in to cluster and change the coding to the specs of your car, ie region, cylinder etc.

as for the coding of the vag tacho and the binary, it really depends on the Immo3 cluster. this part will have to be done with vag-tacho 2.5 upwards. Sometimes vag-tacho 2.2 does work. But again it depends on the immo3 cluster.

You can also recode the cluster with your cars vin number. So it makes it look al legal i guess you can call it.
