  • Anyone know how to bring in US (Jetta) parts cheaply?

Looking at getting me one of these:

    Part #: 1 JM 809 962 A
RHS Vented Inner Guard Lining for a Jetta City 2008

    http://tdiparts.com/catalog/product_...oducts_id=1063.

    Apparently it's a bolt-on for the MkIV: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=3864177&page=1

Prefer this to trying to hack one up myself particularly as my lining is cracked anyway...Rang VW here (Coffs) and they don't have it in their Oz catalog, only the worldwide one so they can't get it.

Found it on that site above but shipping is a killer - esp as I want it ideally some time late this week...

Thought someone might know a better way to bring it in or somewhere I can source one in Oz...

    Cheers

i am stuck in the same situation as you at the moment, need some parts from the US and the exchange rate means that i may well have to sell a kidney!

ive looked into it as well, for starters theres not too many places which actually have VAG parts, and the ones that do usually work out the same or higher in terms of price...

ive just bitten the bullet and decided to live off 2 minute noodles for a week or two.. if you come up with anything let us know as ive noticed that a few people around here have been complaining about the sudden jump in prices due to exchange rate fluctuations...

also maybe try posting in the WTB forum, you never know, someone may have what you are looking for...

Haha, yeah it's like that - for me the part is something like $60 US and the postage is about $40 - if the exchange rate was back near parity I'd prob just suffer it, but that hurts atm...

      What's the WTB forum?

      Cheers

        you have other options

Audi TT has the same, you could use that.

Or be creative and do this http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2874318

you can also use mesh wiring as well, this is what ive done. More effective as you have more air flowing through and you can cut out a wider area
        What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Last time I was at the golf wreckers near me, they had wheel arch liners with molded-in vents, i.e. slots in them as part of the molding.....Unless someone had done a very neat job of making their own vent.

Thanks for the replies - where's that wrecker gavs?

I've seen the DIY threads and was going to do something like that when I noticed the post about the bolt on option - thought it'd be neater - if i can't get one without selling a body organ like HOLEIN1 says I might be back to doing that...

The guy can be pricey tho, his theory is that if VW sells something at $xx, then he sells it at half their price, no matter what the condition!! Though you can negotiate.....
