while we're on the topic of aircon issues...whenever I have my AC, i can feel extra vibrations thru the floor and pedals. The thing is I really cant remember it happening before, just started to notice after my drive back from Coffs 3 weeks ago. It is mostly noticable at idle.

Just a quick update. I took the golf for a fairly long drive to the beach and back, and the aircon was playing up a bit again. It was about 35 degrees outside and, apart from it making the usual noise accelerating/decelerating in first/second, i did find that the car idled at 1500rpm for a few seconds before dropping down to the usual ~800rpm. This happened at a few sets of lights, and doesn't ever occur with the air con off. Would this add weight to the bearing theory, or am i just best off saving for the whole compressor anyway?
I got the car checked for fault codes and the climate control module threw one (blend door was out of calibration). The mechanic performed a recalibration on it and the car is fault code free.
I don't think this will help my original problem, but at least it's something i suppose...
