I hate clear indicator lenses

I know it's the kewl thing to have and all the kiddies have them, but I want to go the other way. My Golf has come with clear repeater indicator lenses at the sides behind the front wheel arches. I can live with the front ones in the headlights because there's nothing much you can do about it as they are integral units. The rears are orange as they should be but the side ones in my case are clear. I have no idea if these were standard fitment or an option when purchased new, but I think the car would look better and the lights would undoubtedly be more easily visible if they were traditional old-school orange tinted lenses instead.

Were clear lenses standard here or have I got something optional? Are normal orange lenses available for the repeater indicators?

Base model Golfs have orange ones I reckon. When lit up though they both look orange so I am not sure there would be any benefit to changing them.

I kinda agree with you on that one though.. I'm not a huge fan of clear indicator lenses either. However for me it's the opposite, I don't mind the side one but it's the headlight ones that give me the ****s... Weird hey..

Yeah, I just have a personal preference for the orange look of the lenses when they aren't lit up. That's purely personal preference though and others will prefer the clear look. No dramas. As far as their effectiveness in operation when being lit up though, the argument for orange lenses is stronger I believe.

I have been fooled more than once in not seeing an indicator which was switched on in bright sunlight when viewed at an angle other than perpendicular to the car body. In addition, even if you are at an optimal angle for seeing the light, I don't like how just the very centre of it lights up orange fading very quickly towards the edges of the (clear) lens. It looks odd and aftermarket to me. I prefer the uniform and more homogenous orange glow of the properly tinted plastic lens.

Considering some of the ludicrously pedantic ADRs forced upon car manufacturers, I find it amazing that clear indicator lenses are allowed at all.
