Factory tinted windows?

Hello all,

Just wondering; did these cars come with factory tinted windows? and if so, HOW tinted?

Went for a pink slip today, just a local mechanic never been to before, figured would be sweet... and he failed me on tints... reckons 12% tints when he tested the car with it inside his dark workshop... did it again later to prove to me, showed 13%... regardless, apparently legal limit is 35%, and i'm guessing they're 15%...

On the windows, it has a VW symbol, a bunch of numbers and such, and below says "TINTED"... so is this a factory thing?

They do come with a form of tinting, mine has the stock tint, and it is NO WAY that dark... I think someone has tinted over the stock tint, hence why it has all the VW logos etc etc, and it has added to the stock tint to make it darker...

However i may be wrong

I don't consider my tints dark... is not light, but it isn't bad/stupidly dark...

I'm not sure your windows are 15% if you're not sure whether they were factory or not. Mine are 15% and mine are very, very dark! You can tell they're illegal just by looking at them and they're a mission to see out of at night if there's no light around...so I think the mechanic might have tested it in a poor condition or you've DEFINITELY bought a car with a tint on top of the tint.

Go to a different place for your slip mate I just went to a small mechanic 200m from my house and he didn't check my tints..he just checked my lights and to make sure my engine turned on and that's it lol.

if that's 15% in your sig, mine definately aint that... yours looks like 5% in shaddow mine isnt black, can see into the car, is just dark... the rear windows are a bit darker, but he said they're legal...

Am just sorta concerned that another place will either also say no, or might get RTA issues, because this guy listed it as failing for tints (and tread, but am getting new rubber on monday)

I would suggest go to another place to get the slip. The price of the new slip will be cheaper than the cost of getting the front windows re-tinted with a lighter tint. Maybe even just pop in to another place and ask their opinion?

There is a factory tint in the glass, once you put 15% film over that you would be down to say 13%

i thought of doin that but the guy doesn't seem quite that stupid...

Maybe i'll get new rubber, then take it back with windows down, as am allowed to have free inspection before 2 weeks is up just to be a pain in the ass... then go elsewhere to get approved

OK! went to a tinter, he sortin it out for me!

Had a tint over a tint... BUT... the dikhead who failed me, his tester showed 12 and 13%... the tinter... 18%!!!! and you add one because is not perfectly calibrated... so... wtf... what a dikhead... AND to actually fail people on tints, apparently they need an actual tint reading printout... which they didn't have, because their tester is not up to spec!!!!!!!!!

moral of the story... local mechanics should be shot... the guy's just out to be a pain in the ass... he tells me is for "safety"... and yet he even says "you can just strip it and bring it back, what you do after that isnt up to me"... retarded smack head.
