  • Golf GTI MK4 upgrade help

hey guys, i have a golf GTI 2000 model, i bought it about 2 years ago and im finally considering doing some engine work to it but at the same time not spending too much on it,

so i was wondering whats the best thing to do to a car to get most kw out of it and may be a good trustworthy place to supply performance parts work on a vw since no 1 knows how to work on them.

    thanks

i've only been around these forums for a day or two, but am pretty certain that you're gonna be told to do an ECU upgrade/chip mod if you want to get some noticable extra kw

but i'm gonna watch this thread because it will help me also.
read this while you're waiting for replies:

Chip for cheap(ish) performance and better engine response, coilovers for handling and looks.

can someone please reccomend a chip mod that wouldn't require any (or much) other modifications, and one that won't cause too much additional fuel consumption?

I wouldn't want to reduce the life expectancy of the car too much, so something conservative?

id say one of the major guys apr/giac/mtm/revo/cc. any of them wil put more strain on the turbo and use more fuel, but thats why we do it cause it puts a on your face

so other than maybe at extra litre or two per 100km of petrol consumtion, what sort of damage are we talking to the turbo?
              they expensive to repair/replace??? (i'd imagine that's a yes)

              teach me

it wont blow up, or anything like that, it will just put more load on everything cause it will be running a higher boost level, but it wont blow up on you with in 10min, i know guys have ran a chip on a car for years with no probs.

ahh ok, i see what you're saying.
it's just the extra power will generally wear out mechanical parts quicker than usual, not neccesarily just the turbo, but everything. engine, clutch etc...

I think you need to work out exactly what you want to do sorry.

You posted you want more power, but you don't want to spend to much money, you also don't want to effect fuel consumption & you don't want to hurt the car too much!

                        Making power, mean's more fuel.

                        More fuel, mean's more money!

More power mean's it's harder on your car = more money

Speed cost's money. How fast do you want to go?

                        Leave it stock.
