Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

These are for the front. The post and my question is about the rear flex disc.

This is the front flex disc.
Yeah it's pricey but it'll last another 20yrs.

I've put the call out on the rear flex disc - will let you know if I hear back.

          @NAANI?4Motion,
I'm trying to replace the rear flex disc.

I've removed the three 12 point 10mm bolts & undone the three 17mm nuts.

But when I try to unscrew the bolts there doesn't seem enough space between the Haledx to get them out fully. Any tips?

In your photos, these bolts are shorter and don't seem to have nuts (like the front flex disc I did a while back)

I found in one of your above diagrams:
          12-point flange bolt #22, 60 Nm
Modification: From 09.02 onwards. new securing bolts with balancing nuts and washers were introduced for some propshafts
Two of the new securing bolts might be installed with a balancing nut and washer
If securing bolts are unscrewed, balancing washer and balancing nut are not allowed to be reinstalled

I just noticed in your photos, will the rear flex disc come out without taking the prop shaft apart like you did?

I've loosened the 3 bolts which face the back of the car (#22). Not enough room to pull them out fully.
The car is tilted front down.
There's some forwards movement of the prop shaft but still can't get the flex disc out over the bushing.

Also tried a crow bar to push the prop shaft forwards.

in case anyone is doing this, just take out the 4 nuts holding the central exhaust support and the flex disc comes out easily

Installed the Gen 2 rear giubo on 2003 V6 Bora as first done by @NAANI?4Motion.
It is 170g heavier than the Gen 1.

For leverage, I used a cam shaft tool.

A long 10mm spanner with a neck is very handy for the triple square bolts.

I needed to indent the heat shield a little just to slide it in place (just used the flex disc itself to push up).

No vibration when tested at 100 km/h.

Definitely doable, but very fiddly. The long bolts are a nuisance to deal with because they can only slide out so far before they hit the Haldex controller.

Ah that's awesome so confirmed the 1K (MK5) flex disc fits then! The MK4 ones are getting impossible to find

Helped a mate fitting a new rear diff on an Audi RS3. I didn't take measurements or photos, but the rear guibo looks exactly the same as the Haldex Mark 2.

I think my whole job would have been easier if I had loosened the dog bone.

The rear giubo from RS3 is almost the same as the front from MK4 Bora V6.

On further inspection, the rear giubo from MK4 Bora V6 is same as the front but with an extra collar (rubber + metal) around the outside.

Photos are from the RS3 rear and MK4 Bora V6 rear.
