  • RE: VW Golf GTI MK4 Spark Plug Choices

    Hi Guys,

    I am changing my plugs again on the weekend and thought I would provide some info specific to MK4 GTI's...

    Here is an old thread that touched on the info...

    This is from the factory manual in reference to spark plugs.
    Spark plug test data
    Engine codes BJX
    Firing order 1-3-4-2
    Spark plugs → Note
    VW/Audi 101,000,063 AA
    Manufacturer's designation PFR 6 Q
    Electrode gap max. 0.8 mm
    Torque setting 30 Nm
    Change interval 60,000 km

    The above is not for the AGU engine which is found in our GTI's.

    AGU 110kw 1.8T - VW / Genuine (Branded) Plug Bosch F7LTCR. Multi Ground Plug / 3 prong / copper plugs.
    Other manufacturers equivelants;
    - NGK BKUR6ET
    - NGK BKUR7ET (cooler plug) slight mods/boost etc.
    - Denso K20PBR-S10
    - Beru 14 FGH-7 DTURX

    If you are after Platinum Plugs;
    - NGK PFR6Q (this is what is listed on the Audi A3 on the NGK webiste and the above information)
    - Bosch FR7DPP33
    - Beru 14 F-7 DPUR02

    I have chosen to take out my NGK BKUR6ET and try the following plugs;

    - NGK BKR7E 0.7mm gap / v-groove / cooler plug. Slight mods/boost etc.

    As per the many post's on vwvortex;

    Let me know your own thoughts / experiences guys...

    My car is almost ready for it's 60,000km service and it's amazing that the plugs haven't been changed yet from new. (it's had scheduled dealer services every 15000km since new).

    They must be some plug that comes in the engine from the factory to go that far. I think according to the VW service schedule they are due for changing at this service so it will be interesting to see what gets used.

      I am going with the BKR7E next time. They cost pennies and run well with tuned motors. You change them more often but they are cheap.

      I have std plugs at the moment though and they are coping ok with the big turbo.

        I know this thread's old but just wondering if anyone has used the NGK BKR7E plugs in their GTI. If so what are your thoughts and how much did you pay?

          BKR7E's for the win gents. I run them in the Gli and Gti and change them about around 7000-10000 miles
