MK4 timing belt tute - anyone?

hi there,

well the time has come for the timing belt to be changed on my MK4 Gti

just wondering if there are any tutes with pictures online which i can have a look at?

mate of mine (mechanic at a prestige dealership) is doing it for me, but id like to have a bit of a guide so we can get straight into it instead of chatting and drinking piss...

have had a few quotes and much of it is labour charge, so im guessing that there may be a few tricks to it

I found it pretty straight forward to do after my water pump broke. Make sure you change the pump as well mate. You should use one with a metal impeller. I got a kit from Imparts and that was reasonable money in the scheme of things.

Obviously, you are saving a few bucks doing it yourself. Jmac gave me a top tip, when you have the new belt in place, stick a 10mm socket between the belt cover and the belt by the bottom pulley. I just stops the belt falling out of place while you get everything lined up.

also im probably going to get the parts from solitaire as i want genuine stuff as i dont belive you can get generic?

is there anywhere that i could get stuff cheaper?

Get the stuff from Imparts mate. The genuine pump is still plastic and crap!!

There is nothing wrong at all with bits from Imparts, most, if not all their gear is the same quality or from the manufacturer as OE.

Get prices from both places.
