mm. lowering springs with standard shocks will mean a really dodgey ride. completely underdamped. i reckon if you went to inmotive(parramatta), or tcca(artarmon), they'd have something for you. i personally know of a set of coilovers for $800. (frikken cheap). they're hottuning, but i have em, and they've actually settled down now/have a decent ride.
i was thinking along the lines of coilovers cause your first post said you want a lot of droppage. (my car's atleast 3 inches lower on the back) i dont think you can get spring/shock combos that go that low...
alternatively, you could get your standard springs reset. it's cheap and if you're after looks, slammage is slammage..87' MK2 GTI

suprisingly most peoples cars pics i can find are on KW Coilovers, H&R or similar.
This is just to give you an idea of ride height and wheel sizings.Last edited by fuzion; 11-09-2008, 08:40 AM.What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

In NZ we mostly use H&R springs or Eibach matched to Bilstein shocks. There's also the cup kits but damn expensive1999 Golf GTi - SOLD

Thanks for the replies guys!
I think from those pics i would want to go for a look like either snowy's or vweapns. I like vweapns look, love the slammed look. But snowy's is a nice ride height (and with the woman also driving the car i cant go toooo low!!)
I think coilovers will be the go, but after talking it thru with the missus (yes the cash factor sucks) I may be waiting a month or so to get somethin done!
Thanks to Matt (golf loon) for getting back to me about the coilovers he has in stock, but the cash isnt there at the moment. So i think ill save and do it right in a month or so. Still not sure wether to go for springs n shocks or just go the coilovers? I would like to just get coilovers, its just the cash factor atm!! I dont wanna rush into it. Plus i would like to sort out wheel before i lower it..
ill keep looking round, but the info you've given me is great! Thanks againGolf Mk4 Rookie

ye man ride is bumpy and uncomfortable. but thats what i do for looks. i have 19's 3.5 inch at the back 2.5 inch at the front on the pedders soft springs. standard shocks. 20's are too big for a golf & 18's looks too small depending on the wheel style. eg fuzion, snowy 18's suit there car in regards to wheel size.

The big questions is wether to go the spring n shocks or just get the coilovers in one go?!
I think 19's would be the biggest i would go anyways. i think 20's wiould be too much hassle!
Soooo many options! hahaGolf Mk4 Rookie

i reckon it's cause it's underdamped on standard shocks. i dont think low profile 19s would help much either.
hop on vwvortex and look through the mk4 picture thread, and find a nice ride height/wheel combo and post it up here.
also, coilovers!! springs/shocks aren't thaaaat much cheaper..87' MK2 GTI

If you want to lower it to get the right stance, def go for coils, give you so many options when it comes to lowering and ride height

here are a couple. Love the wheels in the first pic, but dont really wanna go for that poked out look on the back wheels. Id rather they sit up in the back guards.
Pretty much, i cant go as low as i want as the missus will be driving the car sometimes, so i would like the car to sit on the line of the back tyre.. and if i do go coils i can alway adjust it lower wen i wanna go cruising! haha But def want deep dish bandits!
NICE Ride height:

aaand the same car as the first, but this EXCACT look is what im going for (with diff style rims, they are still hot tho! I maybe want to go for a more flat/ solid looking wheel ) but def with that massive dish, also maybe 1-2cm higher than it is!
AWESOME!
