I think the most common is the Haltech Interceptor or E8.
Haven't had any personal experience with either, have heard both positive and negative reports.

Haltech interceptor piggyback ecu. I know they do the current GTI but whether they do the MkIV though I don't know.
Otherwise you can go a full blown E11v2 to replace the ECU entirely.
Another option is to go down the MoTec route.
Be prepared to pay through the nose though for any of these options and getting it wired in and tuned.
In response to your comment about not rating the likes of Custom Code, APR and I assume GIAC as well. You may want to rethink your options there as for nearly all needs these guys will cover you and have invested the time and money to develop a reliable product. The 1.8T is a tried and tested engine with plenty of off the shelf bolt on modifications which will work together quite happily.
        Cheers,
        Trent

Wolf is another option. I've got a wolf 3d version 4 in one of my cars, and works really well; am one of many happy with the unit. Am considering gettting a Wolf V500 for another car i have atm...

Have also got an EMS unit in another car... runs rich as ****/lost it's tune after about a year. Cheaper unit than the wolf though, and lots of people like them.

hay guys i live in brisbane i am not knocking custom code or reflashes in any shape or form but like i said i want something that will be dyno tuned not off the shelf reason being is there is a massive difference between figures e.g
there is a guy in a.c.t who has a k04 and the flash that goes with it intake, exhaust and other basic mods now he only got 146kw atw a friend of a friend ran with the k03 and had pretty much same mods as the k04 guy only difference was every mod he got he had it tuned and he had a piggy back ecu and a chip he got 174kw atw !!!!!!!!! dyno sheets to proove it this is my motive to settle for nothing but the best and the best is anything programable

Out of interest what are you doing that you think a flash won't cover?

              PM if you want.

No offence, but I don't think I would like to see a K03 run 174kw atw for any extended period of time. Turbo go bang pretty quick!

The boost to run those sort of figures would be very high, and the K03 really isn't very reliable from all reports over 15psi/1bar.

Even a K04 is only expected to run up to around 160-170 mark with the usual mods.

You're definitely justified in your decision to choose a piggyback/replacement ECU if you want custom maps etc, however as Trent said, most of the typical mods like dump pipe, FMIC's, turbo upgrades are all handled/supported/tested by the APR/GIAC/CC/REVO guys... Personally, I would trust my car with a company that have spent hundreds, perhaps thousands of hours on dyno's, not to mention the dollars, to create a safe and reliable map rather than a dyno monkey playing trial and error. Once again, no offence intended... just my personal opinion! (these kind of threads nearly always end in tears for some reason!)

Out of interest, were the 2 runs done on the same dyno? There can be massive fluctuations between dyno setups and conditions.

Tuning is pretty much an art; so to refer to tuner(s) as "a dyno monkey playing trial and error"... have you ever had somebody tune your car? There's a set method to go about tuning, and it's not something a monkey would be able to do

Certainly have. I used to have a supercharged Soarer which ran a couple of custom ECU's, from a Mines to a C's to a custom STM6. My experiences with them weren't great with major fueling problems. But, as I said... that's my experience. You're right, there are certainly some great specialists out there... I just haven't come across them

haha. there are plenty they throw in lots of fuel to safeguard against detonation.

There's a few places in sydney i'd recommend.

I spilt my oj reading this !
There is no way you could get 176kw out of a golf 4 with a ko3 without a NOS shot or meth injection of some sort . Thats more than any KO4 powered car Ive seen , including ones with high flowed KO4's . And if , thats if you could get there your turbo lifespan would be measured in hours if not minutes !
