  • MK4 r32 Rattle between 1st, 2nd,3rd @low rpm's

    Hey Guys,

My MK4 R32 has a small rattle between 1st 2nd and 3rd when i take off at low rev's, i read somewhere that its got something to do with the heat shield on my exhaust.

I still haven't found a clear solution to my problem.

I don't usually take off at low rev's but sometimes i just like cruising my car.

    Can someone help?

You "read" that it has to do with the heatshield ???

How about getting under it and looking if the heat shiled is loose or if it is possible to rattle ?

Not sure how you would like us to help; go check it out yourself...

I think he was looking for more of a suggestion of where to start looking and if anyone else has had the problem, rattles are a bugger to find.

As said, try having a play under the car to see if you can't locate the culprit. Try and imagine the resonance level of the engine and see if you cant reproduce it somehow.

Dude, don't be so harsh on the poor guy. He may not have the infinite wisdom that you so obviously carry!

Maybe this is a common issue and there is a simple solution.. Not everyone is very mechanically minded and some people struggle with this kind of stuff.

I hope someone else with an R32 can offer some useful advice rather than turning a new forum member away.

Hi mate and welcome to the forums. Head over to the newbies corner and introduce yourself and post up some information and photos of your sweet sweet ride.
In regards to your problem, I'd give graeme86 a PM about your issues as he seems to know everything about the R32 and should hopefully be able to help you out. And yeah get under there and have a good poke around.
          Cheers,

Below 3000 rpms. The sound is between a rattle and knock, its not that loud.

When the car gets goin it doesnt do it anymore.

check gbox and engine mounts ...put a bar and try to move them... Check exhaust pipes all the way back for clearance one of the rubber "hooks" might be off?
