  • 2002 V5 Bora Newbie Questions HALP!

hey guys, ive got a few questions concerning the bora

Firstly im replacing the gear knob/boot as its very worn out. im not too sure on how to take it off however

Secondly i was looking at the motor just checking the fluids and im wondering what this is. there seems to be a hole u can put a bolt in. this thing vibrates alot and im wondering if its normal?

    thanks in advance!

The circled thing is the accessory drive belt tensioner.
The threaded hole is for a bolt which you screw in to release the tension when changing the belt.

If it vibrates a lot I would suggest the belt ("serpentine belt") may be in need of a change- not a huge job.

When the engine is stopped, look in there with a torch- make sure the ribbed belt is not worn, chipped or cracked.

Otherwise the bearing may be shot on the idler wheel (quite common I believe also)

      hmmm

the belt seems to be fine no damage wat so ever however i am still concerned that the tensioner moves alot, not too savvy on these things, how much would it take to replace the bearing if that were to be the problem?

Pretty easy - see the 3 bolts to the left of where you have the red circle ?- take them out and you can remove the whole tensioner. - You may want to release the tension first - thread a suitable bolt (8mm?) that fits into the blank hole and tighten- this will slacken the tensioner.

It will be obvious once off if the bearing is shot.

I think there is a bearing kit available otherwise get a whole new tensioner.

Mate its vibrating cause it is doing its job, it does oscillate. dont waste your money unless its noisy.
