I have a 3" Stainless dump into a high flow cat (can't remember brand). That set me back about $750. From there it goes into a Remus system that I got seond hand for $250. So for a full system you would be expecting around the 1k mark.

Ok so ill look into 2.25" lol didnt no there was any bottom end to loosetotally stock. not very quick
Nothing wrong with any of it except where it was cut near where it crossed over the rear crossmember to make it easier to get off the car, just needs re-welding at that point. The down-pipe is obviously no good to you but the rest might help you out.

Just FYI update: got quoted about $250 mark for a high flow cat installed (X-force ceramic cat), price goes up to $400 for a metal cat installed. Mufflers start at $150 i think he said.
Gonna go in and get a quote for cat, muffler, and deleting center resonator some time soon, and post up price, incase anybody else wants the same to their car.

Does anybody know how good the stock cat's are?
Highflow cats seem to not be too cheap installed, so trying to figure out if it's worth the $$$.
Castle hill exhaust quoted me $280 for a ceramic high flow cat installed, Vs. $330 for a metal one - the metal one being a higher flowing type, and said to last forever. (also quoted an x-force muffler installed at $260, or would fit provided muffler from $120)

I don't believe the stock cat is a restriction. I haven't seen any specific tests done on Golf's, but I believe that is the general consensus.
When I had my exhaust fitted last weekend, they had an EVO VIII Lancer there, full rally spec with a straight through exhaust, which the guy was saying was dyno'd a couple of weeks ago. With new emissions requirements they had to fit a cat up to it and apparently it made no difference on the dyno at all.
