  • Head Unit Removal... How...?

I have the worst squeek in the stereo head unit in the Gti. If anything drives me nuts its rattles and squeeks. I have put foam in under the headunit before which hellped but didnt fix.

I cant get the head unit out of its mount. Do i need a special tool or what?

I'm pretty sure that you need a tool. This tool is dependant on the headunit that you have. You'll have to go on a hunt to find the tool.

Okay, easy. Got some wire the same size as the 4 holes on the front of the head unit and jammed it in there. By removing the Climate control i could get in behind the head unit to push (a little bit difficult to pull from the front of the unit).

I then removed the head unit, and the tray above it. I had to fill in the top of the tray (has venting holes in it) so i could use it upside down. So the tray has now replaced the position of the headunit, and the head unit sits on the very top making it a hell of a lot easier to hit the buttons on it.

      AND... it doesnt squeek anymore!
