  • New Clutch for VR6

Well the mk3 section seems to have taken off real well last couple of days so thought i would contribute.
In search of a new clutch something preferably heavy duty guaranteed to go well.I dont have any experience with them so any help as to what clutch a vr6 would benefit from would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Dom

If you're not going to go forced induction the stock Sachs clutch is plenty beefy enough. You can get good deals with them and lightened flywheels in a combo. I would highly recommend a lightened flywheel makes a big difference. Try MJM or some of the other online stores, they do pretty good combo deals.

Not to sidetrack the thread or anything but I'm getting work on my transmission done soon, is it advisable to throw in a clutch while I'm at it? I'm pretty sure the original clutch thats done over 200 000 clicks but it has no issues. I was lookin at the clutch kit on GAP and I just figured it would save on labour if I got the two jobs done together, but then again if the clutch has no issues yet should I just leave it in there?

Def get a new clutch. You dont want to fork out more money 6 months down the track if ur clutch then goes. Those gap kits are pretty good and what i bought, yet to put it in the car but for a stock motor its more than plenty.

Try Adelaide Clutch they make the extreme series of clutchs, and also sell kits to, i think it is autotech in the states. They also have lightweight flywheels if thats what you want.

Dom when I enquired about getting a clutch, sparks+leads and a wheel bearing kit, I was told shipping would be around the 100-120 dollar mark for all of that They've got great prices man, if you wanna get your clutch done I would definitely suggest grabbing a GAP one!

I need one and I'll be doing my own clutch (goodness help me) with the help of a few mates, and I'm planning to use GAP for the order..when I have money..hah.

VR6 clutch is hard to do at home - Very heavy Gearbox.

I`d put a SACHs clutch kit and lighten your stock flywheel. $500 for both of those things.

Hey Matt how do you lighten the stock flywheel? Or do you mean buy a lightened one..

And I'm sorry for the dummy question, but what gains can be seen from a lightened flywheel?

Engine revs freer. Black VR6 has a fidanza flywheel, 5lb or something crazy. He likes it muchly.

So would it technically mean your car would be slightly faster? haha...

I'm just trying to work out whether it's worth an extra US $220

machine the flywheel (take material off it).

how i see it, (as simply as possible), the less mass your engine has to drive, the more pooowwwahh it can devote to actually rotating your wheels.

                        simple.

i'd totally go lightened flywheel/uprated clutch if a) i had any power, b) if my syncro wasn't already f*cked

                          Get it lightened locally.
Use the telephone to find out who can do it
I can get it done, but whilst its at the machine shop or off the car, you are driving no-where.
