Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK3 Vento GL

    Hi All,

I've got a MK3 Vento GL Classic that I've had for almost 2 years now and I'm looking to give it a few upgrades.

First things first, its auto and I want it in manual, is it worth converting?

Also was looking to see if i could put Mk4 interior in it, I like the seats in the link --> http://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/de...13786707/?Cr=0

The cars paint also isn't in the best condition and was thinking of getting a respray as well as getting it touched up overall.

And lastly, power! It's only a 4cyl 2.0, has anyone stuck a turbo or super charger in these things?

    Will post photos soon...

Will take any suggestion, also first post and can't wait to get more active in the community

    Cheers!

Welcome to the exclusive club - there were only ever 397 Ventos brought into Australia by VWA.

Auto to manual conversion, if you want better performance it is the way to go. May I suggest following Dylan8's example, take out the whole engine/transmission package and replace with a manual VR6 engine/transmission package (2.8l V6 engine that was shoehorned into the Mk3 by VW) so that should give you a good performance boost plus the manual box at the same time.

      Ventos were nice.
I had a new one in US badged as a Jetta 111.
I then bought another new one in South Africa badged as a Jetta.
They were super popular in both those countries.

        All of those are options.
For the manual to auto swap you would probably want a donor car to wreck to get all the little bits and pieces.
Those early gti seats are super comfy. I had a set that I planned to pit in the Vento but was too much mucking around and everyone else who has done the swap never seems to get the fronts sitting right. Need to chop the rails from the chassis or modify the seat base. I ended yo throwing them in my bora instead.
Turbo or super charger. They do a bolt on charger Kit for them. However you are looking at more dollars than the car is worth even for a second hand. The charger is probably the cheapest and safest bet without pulling the motor apart for upgrades.

A manual conversion is pretty straight forward. Golf cl and gl are very cheap at the moment. Buy a gl you get all spare parts mechanic wise.
