VR6 Gearbox oil (o2a)

Ive done nearly everything on my VR6 since picking it up regarding its service items and im onto the last thing which replacing the gearbox oil.... So my question is what is the preferred oil to run in a o2a gearbox these days that is easily attainable locally?

I used Redline 75W90 last time I did it and I could definitely feel a big difference. It is a bit more expensive compared to others out there and I've gotten it from Repco before, they just had to order it in.

Redline is a popular choice..... Do you remember how many liters was needed?

Ive been looking at the Liqui Moly GL4 75W90 as i run their DSG and engine oils in my mk6


I used Penrite in my last VR6 but for some reason it made shifting worse off then before the service so im not going down that path again

Second Redline MT90! Such good stuff... It is like snake oil when it comes to grinds and dodgy shifting.

I can't remember exactly, maybe 3 quarts? Old mate Max would know ^^

From memory (and Bryce will be able to confirm if I was right when i gave him 2L...) I managed to fill it with 2L. I would also recommend doing a flush with some cheap stuff if you can get a hold of it as well. I always found that because they are supposed to be sealed for life, the oil in there is fairly crap and grubby and a flush helped get rid of the crap.

You need GL4 75w90 gearbox oil, i found a local independent who sourced his own gl4 for like $30 for 3L and then ran that for a week and drained and refilled with mt90

Some might say overkill, but it cant hurt!

I run lightweight shock proof redline. Its great when shifting hard, fixed all my first gear syncro problems. I doubt i have a second gear syncro left anymore as it crunches so badly when driving around town but when hitting it hard it seems fine lol.

So you reckon doing a flush is the way to go... I might just buy 2 lots of the liqui moly GL4 75W90 and do it that way, its not like i need to do it often so i dont mind spending a little more on it

This gearbox in the red one feels good the only thing ive noticed is on every cold start the first shift into second feels a little sticky then after that she is fine
