  • New Brakes

Im in dire need of a new brake setup, mine are pretty well shagged out and old.

Now I dont wanna spend big bucks on a full brake upgrade, but something new and better than stock would be nice!

Had a quick look on GAP last night and they do a pair of Zimmermann Sport cross-drilled discs for about $120 or a pair of EBC Sports rotors for $130 which to me seems pretty damn good price wise and cheaper than I could find over here for stock OEM items. What would people recommend about these and is there anything else around for the same sort of price that would be any better?

Also looking at a set of EBC Greenstuff pads for the fronts aswell for about $60. Yay or nay? Ive heard good stuff about Green and Red stuff before so kinda keen on them.

Car is mainly used for daily use, but I do drive around the hills alot (as I live in the hills now) and will be taking the car out to track a few times a year for a bit of fun and games.

Any help would be much appreciated

Try out some DBA slotted rotors, EBC red stuff pads, braided lines and Motul RBF600 fluid. That should keep you happy. Let me know how it goes (coz this is the setup I want to get )

I'd be looking at fitting some bigger disks, like 280s off a G60/Passat/early VR6 etc. Not a lot of extra money as you just need some caliper brackets. Plain discs would be fine with some branded pads.

Robin has this set up on his 16V.

You will find that if you import them, you will pay more for the postage than what they cost you.

I have heard good stuff about DBA too. From memory, they are around the $130 price mark as well, but I think for our cars they don't do the premium series.

I will be tracking this post. keep us updated

A good option is the girling60 caliper which bolts up to the hub and allows u to use 280mm 4x100 rotors which u can buy locally off a cupra. Fourseasons sell just the caliper + caliper carriers and ecstuning have em too. Then u can just get new rear discs and pads and ur all set.

PS: They are two pot as well rather than the stock single pot.

This is true, but if you are after some big brake madness id be going a TT/Porsche/AP racing big brake kit. The DBA's are good base to start with and are semi cheap and australian made.

EBC green stuff pads with some cross drilled and/or slotted RDA rotters...

Both have Mk3 2ltr of the shelf

I looked into the upgrade kits from the US and realistically for a 2.0 u dont need more than 280mm brakes unless u are doing track work. The costs are stupidly high due to shipping and taxes and for gain that isnt really required. I bought the 305x28mm brembos off these forums for my abf and i know they are going to be overkill for sure!

They are also another option if u want to spend the money, go look up badger5.co.uk i think it was.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Am going to look at some RDA's tomorrow, getting some quotes etc. Set of them and some green/red stuff pads and decent DOT4 fluid should do me nicely

Looking at the G60 calipers and 280mm still though, just trying to get some prices on stuff first!

Try the DOT4 ATE fluid, pretty good IMO and not too expensive.

Ended up getting a set of the EBC Rotors from GermanAutoParts

After getting quotes on RDA rotors over here, it was stupid, they wanted like 120$ a corner for standard replacements! I got the EBC's for 130$

Bought them along with a set of the EBC Greenstuff pads and a load of other parts to service the car (leads, plugs, filters, sump plug etc etc) and with shipping it came to around the $400 mark which was very reasonable I thought! Less than half the price of buying parts locally!!

Looking forward to having decent brakes once again!
