  • Engine Codes and found a great mechanic

I bought my golf thinking it was an 1800 as thats what was on the docs, also the dealer( non VW) said it was an 1800.
My mate here in Adelaide who I have known through the aircooled stuff for years, did his appreticeship with VAG in the UK and said he didnt think there were many 1800's sent over here.
I checked my engine code and its a 2.0, code is ADY.

Also I told him I had an oily smel; when I accelerate but I wasnt using oil or dropping any.
He said straight away that the breather on the top of the rocker cover cracks underneath and thats what it would be.

Guess what I checked and he was right.
Goes to show some mechanics do know what they are talking about.

Heres a link to check codes

Nice link! All I know is that the VR6 has engine code AAA, early model 2.0L with large inlet manifold and fewer sensors (notably the crank angle/engine speed sensor) is the 2E, and the other 2.0L engines with smaller inlet manifold is the ADY.
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.
