I am considering upgrading suspension and wheels once I get my tax refund at the end of the financial year. Just thought I'd post up what I'm thinking of doing. On the suspension side of things, I am looking at coilovers. From what i gather springs etc are a waste of time. What is people experience of the ebay coilovers? I'm leaning towards something slightly better quality. I hear they're a bone shattering ride...What I was looking seriously at was weitec. I know these are still budget coilovers, but are they any good?

I think they'd look decent. Is there much work involved in getting them to fit? Will I need to roll fenders? Also will they look alright without spacers? I haven't been bothered to check the pattern so I'm assuming theyd fit on since they're 5x100. Any advice and opinions would be very welcome. They're going on here..

I cant view the pics as im capped but as for coilovers ive got a set of koni's from the US which are yet to go on. Ill let u know about ride quality, they retail for 1100USD but by the time it gets here u dont save alot. That being said i wanted a decent quality coilover setup and i know im getting what im paying for.

I've been quoted Koni coilovers by a mob that distributes Koni stuff and it was $2700AUD shipped. You'll save $900 by getting them in yourself like Pedro did!

Weitec are subsidiaries of KW, and although they're cheaper, I'd gather that they're still a respectable product. You can definitely go more "budget" than Weitec. As for the quality of the ride, it's totally subjective. I love the way a car rides on coilovers and while it can be annoying on Parramatta Road, most other times it's quite bearable. It's something you get used to as well - I don't feel confident in my sister's Polo with its 150,000km old stock suspension!

The wheels made by Maxxim (and other replica brands) are generally more "conservative" in terms of sizing. Having said that, if you know could put down the sizes you can buy for 5x100, we can tell you whether they would fit nicely or rub.

To be honest, the wheels you have on right now look good! They look like a smaller version of the RS4 wheels.

Also another question.... are these bbs rippoffs from konig/maxxim okay quality, and durable? Theres no chance i'm paying $500 per wheel for a set of bbs rs... so I figured I'll get the fakes. I just hope the replicas are alright.

I've sold a few sets of BBS RS and I wish I could've got $500 per wheel out of them! Look around car parts classifieds, eBay and these forums. All the sets I've bought before have been much less than $1k and some of them had tyres! Though I must say not all of them have been as simple as just flipping out the wallet - a lot of them won't fit and will need some redrilling work or fitment of adapters.

Having said that, those replicas are pretty much an exact match to BBS RS. They've got the number of spokes and even the number of bolts correct too. Of course, the only thing different between them and the real deal is that you can't split the Maxxim/Konig/Lenso ones. They're just one-piece with fake bolts.

Dom (WABIT) on the forums has a set of Konig replicas - shoot him a PM about them! From his pics, they look fantastic, and he modded a set of BBS caps - you wouldn't be able to tell they're any different to the RS.

Those wheels aren't bad. You can even machine them a little to fit original BBS centre caps! LOL!!

But, on a mk3, the et35 will be fine.
I tested WABIT'S wheels on my car, and it was ok. I'd probably actually go a et20, myself, and to have them fill the guards a bit better...

Ive been looking at a set of those Maxxim wheels aswell. Lenso do another copy of the BBR RS wheels also, but I cant find them in Aus, no where here stocks them which kinda sucks. Ive emaild Maxxim/Konig in the US to see if they would ship the wheels here, but alas they refuse to ship O/S

As for coilovers, if you want to save some money, but still have a reasonable set, you cant go past the Hottuning coils Robin is currently distributing over here from the UK/EU. I have a set in my MK3 and they are great, ride really well, handle awsomely and perfect for a daily car (which I thrash around the hills very frequently!). For $500 its hard to refuse

Let me know if you have any luck with getting the Maxxim wheels, im pretty keen for a set, and they do them in a 4x100 ET20

Those hottuning coils do look pretty tempting. I've just heard bad things about the cheap ebay brands... like poor ride quality and I wonder about the durability. Do they go down low enough Lorenz?

They will deffinately go low enough mate! Ive got them wound down about half way now and its still nicely low and handles awsomely

Heh that's plenty low. I'm starting to be sold on these hottuning ones. I guess even if they do fail eventually I can buy a second set and only have spent about as much as a set of weitecs....But im wondering how my bones will hold up to the ride of the hottuning ones down that low..

I have asked about the Lenso one before (Lenso BSX I think they call it) but it was an email to their headquarters in Indonesia or wherever and they only responded with details about their Aus distributor Not long after that I landed a set of BBS RS, so I didn't really get to ask about the Lenso ones.

I emailed jbl motorsport in california about konig remembers. This is the response i got "Before we can give you a quote please read the following:
The only method of payment for international orders is western union money transfer or cashiers check (takes up to 3 weeks to clear). I emailed a friend of mine who works at Tyrepower and they stock Lenso wheels, but said they cant get the BSX Lenso wheels in sadly Ill have to ask a few other places. Got a few other conections I can try hehe
