Starting Trouble... 2.0lt 1995 Mk3

I’ve recently had a bit of trouble starting the Golf - turn the key the car fires up fine then one seconds later it shuts down. The problem is a bit random, only happens about 1 in 10 times.

Anyone else experience this?

Kit car had an answer to a similar problem a while back.It was to do with the reader.

I had that problem b4, got the spare key... however if i m having a cold start in winter, it would go off after 2secs, then i have to give a bit of gas to keep it goin, juz try to grab a new key

The spare newer key seems to have solved the problem.

We'll have to thank Steve for that one.

yep same prob with mine - seems to be the key chip or reader - jiggle the key around inside the hole, and/ or re-insert - seems to do the job most of the time
